VICHY Aqualia Thermal Review

As someone with normal to dry skin, I’m a huge fan of moisturisers and serums. And like the K-Beauty pack, I also believe that moisture is the key to great skin. So when a bottle of VICHY’s Aqualia Thermal Serum landed on my desk I grabbed it with both hands!

VICHY say: This intensive serum is formulated with hyaluronic acid and Thermal Spa Water to help calm dehydrated and sensitive skin and restore it back to its original comfort. Soft and lightweight in texture. Tested on sensitive skin under dermatological control, it’s hypoallergenic and contains no parabens.

The inclusion of hyaluronic acid is a bonus for me – this naturally occurring molecule is found in the body and especially the skin, where it’s responsible for tissue repair.  However, the reason you’ll see it in beauty products from dermal fillers to moisturiser, is because of its enormous ability to bind water to it. This not only moisturises the skin but also plumps it up.

VICHY Aqualia Thermal Review (1)
The serum has a light, milky texture – just enough left to show you!

VICHY say to apply the serum morning or evening onto cleansed skin. After double cleansing in the evening, I applied two pumps of the serum to my whole face, including the eye area. The serum has a soft texture and looks almost milky – some serums are very watery I find, but this has a little more substance which I like and makes it easier to tell where it’s been applied. I loved the immediate feel of the product on my skin, it was so silky and creamy and easy to work in. For me, the best part was the speed at which the serum absorbed. Around 10 seconds later it had all disappeared, leaving my skin looking and feeling nourished and balanced. I was hooked, but how would it fare under foundation? Next morning I applied 2 pumps again, to my whole face, after cleansing. I waited for 10 seconds and then applied my usual liquid foundation with a damp sponge. I’m happy to report my makeup went on beautifully and stayed on all day. Also, the serum alone was enough and I didn’t need any further moisturiser.  As the weeks went by I switched up how I used the serum according to my skin’s needs. When I felt it was needed I added a night cream over the serum and on some mornings I mixed the serum with my foundation to apply a lighter layer of makeup.

Overall I’m giving VICHY’s Aqualia Thermal a score of 9/10. I love the feel, the results and the way the product fits so well with my skincare and makeup regime. It also worked well as a lip moisturiser and I’ll confess to using a pump or two as hand cream…
