Making The Most Of The Sunshine

We’ve all been treated to some unexpectedly fine weather of late, which has come as a very welcome addition to the millions of us who are stuck at home. If recent events have taught us anything, it’s to enjoy the little things in life that we too often take for granted. With that in mind, we’ve put together our top tips for making the most of the sunshine and enhancing your outdoor (and indoor) space to make it work for you.

Whether you’re a sun worshipper or prefer the shade, getting your daily dose of Vit D is great for both body and mind, but the key to enjoying the clear blue skies is being able to do it in comfort. Here’s how to create little spots of sunny heaven at home:

A Basking Spot

If you adore the sun, the chances are you’ve already located the perfect spot in your garden to soak up the rays. If not, now is the time!

But please folks, don’t forget that the sun can wreak havoc on your skin. UV rays are one of the main causes of premature ageing, so before heading outdoors, make sure you’ve got all the right tools on hand to keep your skin safe while you’re sunbathing. Don’t hit your basking spot without a water bottle in hand, a hat on your head, and a good layer of SPF cream on both your body and your face

We also swear by the top trick of keeping a bottle of hydrating mist on hand, especially on those days that there’s no breeze. A quick shot of hydration helps to cool you down and puts some much-needed moisture back into the skin.

A Reading Nook

With longer days and nowhere to be, it’s the perfect time to start working your way through those unread books on your shelf, with a sunshine twist. Create a comfortable nook that becomes your go-to spot for reading, either a semi-shaded spot in the garden, or simply by moving an armchair near a south-facing window. You’ll not only get to soak up some sunshine, but also enjoy the perfect light levels for reading.

When you’ve got your head buried in a book, hours can easily fly by without you knowing it, so remember to protect the parts of your body that are being exposed to the sun. Wear an SPF designed for the face, concentrating on your nose and forehead where the sun hits.

It’s also a great idea at this time of year to upgrade your lip balm to one that includes SPF, if it doesn’t already. We particularly love the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defence Stick – its a whopping SPF50 and is slightly larger than a lip balm as it’s designed to be used on other areas too, like your nose and ears.

Vino Corner

Never has there been more need for a dedicated sunny spot for drinking wine (responsibly, of course). With everything going on in the world, you may be indulging in the sav blanc a little more often, so why not do it in style?

Scope out the part of your garden that gets the last of the afternoon/evening sun and designate it “vino corner” complete with comfy chairs and a small table for nibbles. In general, we don’t spend enough time outdoors, but dusk is a fantastic time to be in the garden, especially at this time of year. Enjoy the birdsong and stillness as you unwind with a chilled glass of something delicious.

But remember, while a glass of vino is great for relaxing at the end of a tense day, it does have a tendency to dry out your skin and increase redness. Make sure you’re including a night moisturiser and/or serum in your bedtime routine to keep the signs of ageing at bay. For bonus points, continue the vineyard theme by using a Caudalie product, like the Vinosource Overnight Recovery Oil which contains nourishing grape seed oil.

Invest In Greenery

There’s something incredibly relaxing about getting stuck into gardening, whether you’re naturally green-fingered or not. Plants improve the look and feel of your outside space, and can provide everything from food to fragrance.

In a previous blog, we delved into the ways gardening can reduce stress and enhance your mental health, but it also just makes your garden a much nicer place to be. Make the most of all that sun by adding some greenery into thoughtful spaces of your garden. Climbing sweet peas are easy to grow and smell amazing, injecting colour into boring spaces with their bright blooms. Or, start growing fruit on your patio, with cherries, raspberries and strawberries all being great options for even the smallest areas.

You’ll find some of the key items in your gardening toolkit in this blog, but the TLDR version is to make sure you’ve got a great hand soap, as you’ll be washing your hands even more than usual. The allbeauty favourite this week is Molton Brown Rhubarb Rose, it smells as good as it sounds!

Bring The Outside In

There’s no better way to celebrate the sunny weather than by improving your home’s indoor-outdoor flow. Doors can be thrown open to the garden, letting the smell of green grass and fresh blooms filter indoors. Windowsills can become suntraps for growing your own herbs, filling your kitchen with the aroma of fresh basil and rosemary. Your home will never smell so good!

Of course, not everyone has the time or inclination to grow plants indoors, or perhaps you suffer from seasonal allergies and are avoiding “bringing the outside in” at all costs! The good news is, you can still enjoy the scent of Spring without the plant or pollen factor.

Whether you’re gardening or not, hand washing is a regular feature of everyone’s day, so opt for soaps infused with aromatics. Replace your boring kitchen hand wash with L’Occitane Shea Butter Citrus & Rosemary Duo, and in the bathroom, add a bar of Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Soap

For added fragrance, use a diffuser in the main traffic area of your home. We love Noble Isle Willow Song which is a floaty green floral that blends rose petal, ivy and watermelon. If you have pollen allergies, we’d highly recommend trying Neom Organics Scent to Calm & Relax. Not only does it smell amazing – with notes of Moroccan blush rose, lime and black pepper – but it can also help to alleviate the symptoms of hayfever.

Mienai Oshare; The Unseen Japanese Beauty

You have probably heard of the popular beauty craze K-Beauty from Korea, but did you know there is a different Asian derived beauty trend which was founded before Korean Beauty? So, what is it? J-Beauty.

J-Beauty incorporates beauty, skincare, and regimes in Japan. KBeauty tends to feature a lot more colours in their makeup palettes and quirkiness within their skincare regimen such as bubble masks, whereas J-Beauty likes to keep things a little simpler. You may think that J-Beauty would incorporate the same type of products as K-Beauty, however, Japan has a long history of traditions when it comes to skincare and cosmetics. Below the mystery of Japanese beauty secrets are unravelled:

Timeless Traditions

Japanese minimalist and timeless traditions have been rooted in their culture from as early as 700 AD. When you think of traditional Japanese beauty, what comes to mind? Possibly a Geisha? Women cover their face with a white powder called Oshiroi as a symbol of beauty. Fast-forward to the 1600s and beauty cosmetics in Japan were primarily focused on three colours: white, black and red. White powder was used to lighten the face whilst red lips were painted on top in a smaller shape than the natural lip. Red lipstick was also used to accent the outer corners of their eyes with red. Some Japanese women would colour their teeth black as it was a traditional expression of beauty and grandeur.

Western Influences

Skip forward to the late 1800s and Western influences were growing ever-stronger in Asia after Japan opened their borders to Dutch merchants. Japanese women started to use a broader range of palettes and colours for their make-up as opposed to the traditional three colours. The 20th century provided face powders and lipsticks in a wider range of shades. Extensive variations of skincare products appeared within the cosmetics industry. After World War II and Japan’s surrender to the United States, Japan’s beauty regimes became heavily influenced by Western media – especially American films, celebrities and print magazines.

Innovation Of Cleansing

So, what is the main focus when it comes to J-Beauty skincare?

Primarily, J-Beauty is all about simplicity, freshness, velvet-like skin and enhancing natural beauty. Did you know that Japanese women introduced us to the concept of double-cleansing? Protecting the skin from the sun is important within the J-Beauty trend, so expect a lot of products to contain SPF. Having clean, moisturised skin is important so products such as serums, facemasks, cleansers and oils are popular, with lighter textures such as milks, gels and emulsions being favoured over thicker creams. Japanese Beauty prioritises taking care of the skin with respect and creating products with the intention of making the skin look and feel its absolute best by offering long-term benefits as a result of preventative care. Why don’t you give Sensai’s 2 Step Cleanse & Purify range a go? Let the results do the talking:

SENSAI Silky Purifying Step 1 Remove & Reveal Cleansing Gel with Scrub. Our Price £34.95 – save £6.05 (15%) off RRP

SENSAI Silky Purifying Step 2 Cleanse & Purify Mud Soap (Wash & Mask). Our Price £34.95- save £6.05 (15%) off RRP

Genuine Ingredients

How does a J-Beauty skincare regime differ? Japanese beauty products tend to avoid ingredients with a high percentage of alcohol or the use of harsh chemicals which can irritate the skin. J-Beauty makes use of natural ingredients which derives from the Japanese tradition of using fruits/vegetables, leaves and other organic ingredients in their skincare products. A few examples of popular ingredients used include collagen, pearls, seaweed and green tea extracts. These all-natural ingredients have provided Japanese women with a number of benefits for the skin for centuries, such as softer skin with more elasticity.

Creating Circles

Here’s another Japanese beauty secret for you – as well as being mindful about what is being put on the skin, J Beauty also considers the method of application. Japanese tradition considers the beauty regime as a sign of self-love with the philosophy that skincare should be like a marathon rather than a sprint. Being delicate and applying lotions in a circular motion instead of rubbing are examples of this.  Have you tried SENSAI Silky Purifying Sponge

Scandinavian Beauty

What keeps Scandinavian women looking effortlessly beautiful and age-defyingly graceful? A simple skincare routine.

Scandinavian people are well-known for the way they prioritise contentment and wellness. In fact, they even have a word for it “hygge”. The hygge mindset has received a lot of attention over the last few years, particularly in home and lifestyle magazines, as we all look for ways to make our lives cosier and more comfortable. But hygge extends far beyond home decor, it’s a way of life for Scandinavians, even down to their pared-back beauty routines.

The norm when it comes to beauty revolves around functionality and results. Beauty regimes value quality over quantity and less is most certainly more. If you’ve ever wondered how those women from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland get their hair and skin looking quite so effortlessly flawless, read on for the inside secrets.

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

With average winter temperatures often dropping below freezing, keeping skin hydrated plays a key role in Scandi-Beauty routines. Moisture can quickly be lost in harsh winds and freezing temperatures, so to prevent dehydrated and chapped skin, Scandinavian women have adopted an effective yet simple skincare routine.

A targetted serum is applied daily to hydrate the skin at a cellular level. Next, a rich, nourishing day cream is used to lock in moisture and protect against the elements. Throughout the day, many women will also top up their skin with a hydrating mist to prevent any additional dryness. And during winter, sheet masks become a twice-weekly investment in that dewy, youthful skin we all so admire.

Quality Ingredients

Most of us would love a skincare routine that includes as few steps as possible, but the Scandinavians have it down to an art. Prioritising quality ingredients, they achieve the best results from the least possible products. Scandinavian skin and hair products will often include glacier water, cloudberries or omega oils. These three ingredients are highly valued for their beneficial properties.

Glacier water is believed to be the cleanest water in the world. Along with it being one of the main sources of drinking water, many skincare products also use it in their formulation.

Omega oils are a popular addition to skincare, but are also an integral part of the typical diet which is naturally high in fish.

Cloudberries are a rare berry found predominantly in Scandinavia. Rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, one cloudberry contains around 4x more vitamin C than an orange.

The Finnish brand Lumene utilises many of these ingredients, why not try them for yourself?

Keeping it Cool

One Scandi-Beauty tip that you can easily integrate into your own routine is the power of cold water. While heat is great for opening your pores – that’s where the sauna comes into its own – it’s important to close them again. Coldwater restricts your pores and blood vessels, making it the perfect final step when cleansing. After finishing giving skin a thorough cleanse with a Swedish Foreo cleansing brush, many Scandinavians will regularly finish their shower or face cleanse with a burst of cold water.

Healthy Hair

While cold water in the shower may not be everyone’s idea of fun, there is an alternative when it comes to achieving shiny, healthy hair. Sachajuan is a Swedish haircare company loved by Scandinavians thanks to their range of highly effective hair products. With each product tailored specifically for the complex needs of different hair types, you’re sure to find something you love.

Beauty That Radiates

Many women from Nordic countries explain that the secret to their complexion is a love of the great outdoors. Those who live in Scandinavian countries traditionally spend a lot more time outside than their British counterparts and its believed that the fresh air and exercise plays a part in their healthy appearance. In summer, the daylight hours are long, so a good SPF facial cream of at least 50 is vital in skincare.

Minimalist Makeup

The passion for quality over quantity comes back into play when we look at typical Scandinavian makeup. For daily wear, most women opt for a simple lined eye and a pop of lip colour. Foundation is often dismissed as instead, there is a preference for a more natural look.

Whether you’re ready to take a leaf from the Scandi-Beauty book and ditch the foundation, or are ready to brave the cold water at the end of your shower, there’s something we can all learn from our nordic neighbours. Why not browse our full range of Scandinavian products and see what works for you?

Australian Beauty

The epitome of sun-kissed, natural beauty, Australians know what’s important when it comes to skincare.

The land of sand, surf and sunshine, Australia has a reputation for it’s glamorous and carefree inhabitants. If you’ve ever wondered how to get that effortless beachy look, keep reading to find out the secrets of Aussie-Beauty.

Daily SPF, Always

It’s no secret that Australia has more than its fair share of sunshine. In summer, temperatures can get as high as 40℃, and have even been as high as 50℃! With that in mind, effective skin protection is an absolute must.

Most Aussie women attribute their age-defying complexion to their commitment to using a high SPF skin cream separate from their moisturiser every day, regardless of how bright the sun is shining. For the face, SPF50+ is required, both to avoid ageing and the dreaded sunglasses tan line! And in general, before leaving the house it’s ingrained in Australians to apply sun protection to all exposed skin, using a sunscreen lotion of at least SPF30 to avoid the risk of long-term skin damage.

While we might not be blessed with the same climate as Australia, protecting our skin is just as important. In fact, we have the same number of daylight hours in summer as many areas of Australia – albeit with quite a few degrees difference in temperature!

And of course, with the need for a daily dose of SPF, good cleansing is a must…

A Thorough Cleansing Routine

With the combination of salt air, SPF, makeup and sweat, giving your skin a thorough cleanse at the end of each day is a core part of the Aussie-Beauty skincare routine. For most, a hot cloth cleansing is the technique of choice, using a muslin cloth to help buff away any dead skin and dirt. A fantastic product for this is the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, which includes a dual-sided muslin and microfibre cloth to both cleanse and exfoliate.

An alternative method favoured by many Australian women is to use coconut oil in place of a cleansing balm. This moisturising oil removes makeup with ease and nourishes the skin at the same time. However, it is important to bear in mind that coconut oil is comedogenic, meaning it can clog pores, so we suggest using with care, particularly if you are prone to acne.

Natural Ingredients

Coconut oil is only one of a host of natural ingredients found in Aussie-Beauty skincare. The aboriginal people of Australia have been using the country’s native plants for centuries for their healing and moisturising properties. Eucalyptus and tea tree are two common ingredients, both growing wild all over Australia.

Eucalyptus is an anti-inflammatory, decongestant and deodorant, it also possesses antiseptic qualities.

Tea tree oil is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and has antifungal properties.

Together, these multifaceted ingredients are used in everything from acne treatments, to dandruff shampoos. There is also the acclaimed Australian Pink Clay, which is a combination of red and white clays and is rich in silica. This clay is another ingredient which has been used for hundreds of years, thanks to its detoxifying and hydrating properties.

Beach Bum Vibes

Australian women have that sun-kissed-sea-tousled look down to an art. After all, swimming in the ocean is a national pastime and one which naturally results in that beachy look. Many women go so far as to fill up a spray bottle with seawater so they can spritz their hair at home and have just-stepped-off-the-beach hair any day of the week.

While taking a dip in the English sea may not be high on your to-do list, you can achieve that same look at home with a sea spray hair product designed to replicate those tousled waves. For bronzed skin at any time of year, our range of self-tanning solutions will make sure you look sun-kissed, not tangoed.

Hair and Skin Hydration

All that sunshine and seawater can be incredibly drying for both skin and hair, so hydration is the secret to maintaining a healthy glow.

After spending time at the beach, a nourishing hair mask brings oils back into the hair, stopping it from becoming dehydrated and splitting. Better yet, Australia’s warm sun means that you can sit outside to make the most of the heat, which gives the hair mask even better results. At home, you can replicate this by combining your favourite hair mask with a blast of the hairdryer, using the heat to speed up absorption and hydration.

For the skin, an Aussie-Beauty tip is to apply a rich moisturiser overnight, so that you wake up with a plump, nourished complexion. Particularly during summer, when the skin is at more risk of dehydration, a weekly face mask is also used to prevent chapping or dryness.

Whether you’d looking for a night cream to wake-up looking refreshed, or want to try a leave-in conditioner that Australians swear by, you’ll find everything you need at allbeauty. As stockists of the A’kin range of Australian skin and hair care, we have all your Aussie-Beauty needs covered.

Summer Sunshine Safety

Summer’s not over just yet- there’s still time to have fun in the sun and soak up the rays.  We want to make the most of every moment in the sunshine (as it doesn’t come around very often!) and we don’t want to be hiding away; let’s be safe and not sorry. You may associate SPF (Sun Protection Factor) with sun prevention products to use whilst you’re chilling by the pool or beach, however it is an acronym that is appearing increasingly on skincare bottles and vials for everyday use.  So whether you’re planning on a summer mini break to the city, packing your bags for a long haul vacation, or simply planning to spend more time outdoors in your garden soaking up the summer sun, read on to find out more about why you should consider using SPF products in your skincare routine.

Here comes the sun…

SPF comes in different factors, ranging from 2 – 50+. According to the NHS, Sun creams and lotions should be at least SPF15, however, factors 30-50 are most effective when it comes to preventing your skin from over exposure to UVA & B rays. It is possible to experience skin damage on a cloudy or overcast day, so it is important to make sure your skin is protected when you are spending long periods of time outdoors.

Shop our best seller Estée Lauder  DayWearMulti Protection Anti Oxidant Sheer Tint Release Moisturiser SPF15 50ml for just £40.50 – saving 10% off RRP.

What is the difference between UVA and B rays?

UV B rays are responsible for causing sunburn. Whilst sunburn can be soothed with after sun products, it’s crucial to note that UVA rays can also cause irreversible skin damage in the long term as they can penetrate through several layers of the skin, causing sun spots, signs of aging and elevating the risk of skin cancer. SPF specifically relates to prevention against UV B rays

How can I incorporate SPF products into my skincare routine?

If you’re a city dweller, Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart Hydrating Shield SPF50 is a moisturising lotion which can be used as the last step in your skincare regimen to strengthen and protect skin. It offers tinted protection against UV rays, meaning that it can also be used in place of foundation. The Prevage range is especially designed to prevent ageing and also fights against environmental stresses, such as pollution, making it ideal for those with a commute.

Fans of French Brand Caudalie will be familiar with the brand’s exciting origins from the vineyards of Bordeaux. But did you know that their famous grape vines can be combined with SPF? Caudalie’s Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare has SPF50 incorporated within its formula containing organic grape water and antioxidants. Formulated without traces of oxybenzone or octinoxate, this product is a great addition to skincare routines for fans of natural beauty & ocean swimming as it is free of chemicals suspected to cause damage to the marine ecosystem (coral reefs included).  Bonus – as well as being lightweight, the product is delightfully fragranced with notes of Frangipani flowers in addition to providing SPF protection. Apply generously to the face before exposure to the sun – avoiding the eye contour. Shop Caudalie’s Whole Suncare Range here.

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream Plus SPF50 for Face & Body 50ml can be used as a base for your foundation and should be applied daily after your usual skincare routine. We love that this cream is for Face and Body – it can be applied to the neck and décolletage to protect against ageing and damage in these oft-neglected areas!  Shop now for £23.50- saving 31% off RRP.

allbeauty’s Sun Protection FABULOUS tips

Pay attention to expiry dates, replenishing products that have expired to ensure that you are maximising their effectiveness and making the most of your skincare routine.

Re-apply SPF products frequently throughout the day (before heading out on your lunch break, after swimming, half an hour before gardening) to ensure that you are always protected from over exposure! The NHS recommend that you apply SPF products half an hour before being outside for extended periods, as well as immediately before you go out.  Our Lancaster Sun Beauty Velvet Touch Face Cream SPF30 50ml + Free Gift is perfect protection at just £14.

Fan of acids and toners? When these are used in your skincare routine, your skin can be more sensitive to sunlight, which is why you should always consider using SPF skincare products to help protect against sensitivity.

The one word we don’t like: Sunburn

We don’t welcome sunburn but sometimes it arrives unexpectedly. What to do when it all goes wrong? We believe that the best way to combat sunburn is through prevention but you need to know what to do if you find your skin irritated and an unfortunate shade of lobster. If you experience burnt skin as a result of overexposure, it is important to treat this as quickly as possible – make sure you also drink water to prevent dehydration and always consult a doctor if you experience severe signs of sunburn.  Our two favourite picks:

Moisturisers and balms containing aloe vera, such as Clinique After Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe, can help to soothe and cool irritated areas of skin, 150ml for just £19. Lierac Sunissme SOS Repairing Serum,  contains witch hazel and omega 3 and 9s can help repair skin from intense exposure from the sun helping to refresh, soothe and prolong tanning results, 30ml for £21.95 saving 51% off RRP

allbeauty has a range of products which can be used to soothe sunburn or to maximise your tan. We recommend that you always apply moisturiser after exposure to the sun – but remember, when it comes to sunburn, prevention is better than a cure!

SPF (Sun Protection Factor):

We can’t stress this enough, whilst it’s important to ensure that your skin gets its daily dose of Vitamin D from outdoor exposure, applying products with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is crucial for the protection of your skin against UV B rays. It is highly recommended that SPF is worn in summer with a minimum factor of 15 to ensure that your skin is protected – even on those overcast days.

Hair Removal

Whether you embrace it, tolerate it or loathe it, controlling hair growth in the summer can be time-consuming and repetitive. If you’re fed up of choosing between a myriad of neon disposable razors, expensive salon trips or shaving subscriptions, then this section is for you. From epilation to Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), handheld devices can provide more permanent solutions to your hair removal issues. Consider it a Summer Beauty investment!

What is IPL?

IPL uses light pulses to tackle hair pigmentation, which targets hair follicles at the root, discouraging growth. It can take between 6-8 sessions to be completely hairfree, but it offers you less maintenance in the long term.
IPL can reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Double check that IPL is suitable for your hair and skin type, as pigmentation and melanin can impact product use.

Exploring Epilation:

Epilation is the act of removing multiple hairs at once using an electrical device (referred to as an Epilator). The Braun range of epilators catches even the smallest of hairs, meaning that it is a good alternative to waxing, where you have to allow for hair growth in between sessions.

We recommend exfoliating first to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. To allow for an easier and more comfortable epilation, you can use the devices in the shower or bath.

Have your feet had a winter of hibernation in socks and tights? Now is the time to air those toes and schedule in a bit of pampering – especially if you’re planning on donning your best summer footwear. Let’s face it, summer is when you are most likely to try out those super impractical but oh so fancy wedges or go on an impromptu hike (let’s hope not in conjunction but, hey, we’ve all been there), so it’s a good time to make sure your feet are adequately cared for.

Awaken Your Skin This Spring

During the winter our skin experiences everything from cooler, less humid weather to dry stuffy environments that suck the moisture out of your skin, in turn leaving you with possible dryness and flakiness.  You’re likely to have used more heavyweight moisturisers, layered up the serums, balms and oils over the winter but now it’s time to say goodbye to them, and say hello to Spring.

Must-Have Summer Hair Protection

So you know all about summer skincare, but what about summer hair protection?

When it comes to summer, you might be all over that SPF skincare malarkey, but what about your hair? The sun can be just as damaging to your tresses as it can be to your face. Our beauty editors reveal their must-have products for summer hair protection…

1. The shampoo & conditioner

Novex Summer Beach Shampoo & Conditioner

Straight from the beaches of Brazil, Novex Summer Beach Shampoo & Conditioner is a deep conditioning system designed to combat the drying effects of the sun, sea and sand. With vitamin E to replenish moisture and encourage healthy growth and coconut and green tea extract to help combat chlorine and salt water damage.

2. The hair mask

Davines Su Hair Mask

New in from Davines, the Italian haircare label taking the world by storm,  is the Su Hair Mask. A moisture replenishing hair mask specially designed to defy the effects of sun exposure, it contains citrus myrtifolia extract, a natural anti-inflammatory, to help soothe irritation or sunburn. Davines pride themselves on being eco-friendly, so packaging is 100% recyclable. Simply apply after shampoo and rinse after 10 minutes.

3. The leave in treatment

Kerastase K Soleil CC Creme

Suitable for all hair types, this complete care Soleil CC Cream from Kerastase protects, repairs, and illuminates hair that has been exposed to UV rays.  And, because it’s a leave-in treatment, it also helps to prevent hair colour change caused by the sun’s rays. Simply apply to damp or dry hair before sun exposure and reapply throughout the day as necessary.

4. The styling spray

Alterna Ocean Waves Bamboo Styling Spray

This paraben-free ocean waves texturizing spray from Alterna creates that coveted ‘just back from the beach’ look instantly. Infused with organic bamboo extract to strengthen hair, Tahitian coconut to moisturise  and Aterna Haircare Colour hold technology to protect colour from sun, seawater and other environmental stressors, plus a Brazillian mango and coconut milk scent to die for!

5. The SPF (yes, really!)

Ultrasun Daily UV Hair Protection

They say ignorance is bliss, but in this case it’s only going to lead to dry, sad looking hair. If you didn’t already know, you should be applying an SPF to your hair as religiously as your face during the summer – especially during heatwaves! Without it, hair is vulnerable to UV radiation, clorine and salt water. Not to mention colour fade. Try the Daily UV Hair Protector from Ultrasun which will also leave tresses supple and elastic – the pefect handbag size, spritz before you head out and top-up throughout the day.
