How To: Get Date Night Ready

Whether you’re new to a relationship or are trying to bring some romance back into your life, adding date night as a regular fixture in your calendar is a must. But if you’re anything like us, the pressure of getting all dolled up for a meal out with the other half can seem like more effort than it’s worth.

And it’s not just married date night grinches that find the build-up overwhelming. If you’re newly dating, the pressure to look just right, not too overdressed, not too casual, is a minefield.

Here’s a handy guide to getting date night ready with just a few easy tips.

1. “Be prepared”

Those boy scouts are onto a good thing with this handy motto. If you know it’s date night, leave yourself time to get ready. There is nothing worse than sweatily trying to apply eyeliner as your Uber waits outside. For bonus points, try to get to bed early the night before so you don’t find yourself dozing during the dessert course. A relaxing fragrance, like the Pillow Spray from ThisWorks, can be a great help for encouraging sleep.

2. Defuzz, or don’t

If you play your cards right, date night could easily become date morning. With this in mind it’s worth a last minute defuzz, if that’s the way you usually roll. Whether you epilate, shave or wax, avoid any unwelcome razor rash by applying a good quality moisturiser to the skin post-treatment. Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion with Shea Butter is one fantastic choice.

Au naturale? You’re good to go!

3. Keep your makeup simple

First of all, let me preface this by saying if you enjoy putting on a full face of makeup before you go out, you do you girl! We are not here to tell you the ‘right’ way to get ready for date night, simply how to make the whole process as easy and breezy as possible.

With that in mind,  keeping your makeup simple is a great choice. A good mascara and bright lip (preferably kiss-proof) can go a long way, and take seconds to apply. Unless you have time to kill, date night is not the time to experiment with new eyeshadow techniques or to try out contouring. Play it safe, keep it simple and stay you,  your last-minute jitters will thank you.

4. Let your crown shine

Your hair is your crowning glory, make sure it’s looked after. Again, simplicity is key on date night, particularly if you have a small window to get ready in. A quick squirt of antifrizz or volumising spray will ensure you look great the whole night through, finished with a shot of setting hairspray depending on whether you plan on breaking some moves on the dance floor.

5. Pack the essentials

Finding the balance when it comes to packing a handbag is an intricate art that can take decades to master. However, a few tips for date night: you probably don’t need your entire purse complete with 4 different coffee rewards cards, but you probably do need gum (because garlic bread shouldn’t stand between you and your sweetheart), that new lipstick, your phone, and, ahem, any relevant protection, aka umbrella.

6. Treat every sense

We’ve saved this one until last because it’s too often forgotten. Smell is an incredibly powerful sense but can often be overlooked when it comes to romance. Before you head out the door, make sure you smell great, but don’t overdo it. When it comes to perfume, less is more. Which fragrance is best for date night? One that fills you with confidence. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our list of favourites below, shop all our fragrance by clicking here or try our fragrance finder to help you be date night ready.

Salcura explains: How to Prevent Itchy & Cracked Winter Skin

For people with dry, itchy and cracked skin, winter can really be a challenging time with the skin having to work overtime to keep up with all the demands we put on it. The colder, wetter weather means bundling up, putting the radiator on full blast, hot showers and warm drinks. However, all these actions can have a negative impact on our skin, with our skin not being able to retain enough moisture leading to drier, itchier and sometimes even cracked skin.

When outside, our skin has fewer benefits of sunlight and Vitamin D as we cover-up and the days are shorter and less sunny. On top of that, the kind of clothing we wear can aggravate our skin, especially the more synthetic fabrics like tights can add to our skin feeling itchier and more irritated.

Once we have made it inside, we turn the temperature up to a pleasant warmth, but unfortunately, those higher temperatures dehumidify the space we are in, which means less natural external moisture for the skin. Additionally, many of us tend to turn up the shower to a very hot temperature and in areas where water is known to be very hard (like London), the hot, hard water, will be your skin’s worst enemy.

Lastly, as we secretly all already know, the foods and drinks we consume during the Winter season tend to not be the greatest for our skin, especially with alcohol being a big reason for further dehydration for your dry, itchy skin.

Luckily, our skin is always working hard to support and protect us. If we provide the right tools and nutrients, we can ensure our skin will help us get through another winter without too much dryness and itchiness.

Avoid wearing clothes that are very synthetic

This might be a tricky one given that it is the party season, but more natural fabrics tend to be gentler on the skin. Do be aware if you have a wool allergy, however, as that might be even more aggravating on the irritated skin!

Additionally, if you know you suffer from very sensitive skin, it might be worth considering using more skin-friendly, natural washing powders, as more synthetic powders might irritate your dry skin. Particularly ingredients like phosphates are not just bad for your skin, but also for the environment!

Shower less and turn the heat down when you do

We tend to shower quite a bit more than is necessary which will disrupt our natural skin balance and possibly strip our skin of its natural oils. It might sound crazy but showering every other day instead of every day or more than once a day, will really help your skin.

Additionally, try and use shower products that do not dehydrate or aggravate the skin. Check the ingredient list in your shower gel and try to avoid ingredients like Sodium Laureth Sulfate, heavily fragranced (Parfum) and peroxides.

Help your skin by feeding it hydrating and moisturising ingredients both inside and out

Drink plenty of water and herbal teas, try and avoid caffeinated drinks like Black Tea and Coffee. Other drinks that might be helpful are water-infused drinks (or make them yourself to avoid any unnecessary sugars), like cucumber water, coconut water or aloe vera drinks. Feed your skin the healthy nutrients it needs to ensure it gets deeply moisturised.

Look out for oils that have a scientifically proven ability to help itchy and cracked skin. Non-fragrant oils like Argan, Borage and Sunflower significantly hydrate the skin and have antioxidant properties so they can help defend the skin against the cold winter weather.

Ingredients like Jojoba and Shea Butter are known to provide an enormous amount of emollient benefits, which will help your skin retain its natural moisture level. And more unique ingredients like Sea Buckthorn and Zeolite, ingredients which can be found in our Bioskin range for dry, itchy and cracked skin, are natural powerhouses to support the natural moisturising factor of the skin and feed the skin the vitamins and minerals it needs to be strong and help you through the winter!

Hair thinning, Hair falls, Hair loss? Foltène has the solution!

Signs of hair loss can be very daunting experience for both men and women. Everyone will experience some form of hair loss at least once in their life time. Most of us are keen to learn, what causes our hair to fall? People are often so quick to conclude that hair loss is linked to aging.  Yes, to some extent age is a contributing factor to our hair health but there are several other factors too. We spoke to haircare experts, Foltène to find out more about hair loss and how their products can help.

Common Causes Of Hair Loss:

  1. Stress – Stressful lifestyle/environments can certainly take a toll on our body, which reflects on our wellbeing and mind, this is when our hair shaft is likely to get weaker resulting in hair loss.
  2. Lack of vitamins – Vitamins such as B12, C, D, E and iron are vital to provide nutrients and to maintain healthy hair.
  3. Hormonal FactorsHair thinning can also be signs of imbalanced hormones. Menopause is one of the toughest hormonal changes a woman will have to go through. This conjoined with aging, plays a huge factor in increasing hair loss
  4. Medications and supplements – There can be side effects of certain drugs that are used for medical conditions such high blood pressure, cancer and etc.

But Why Foltène?

Foltène is known for it’s rich Italian heritage and extensive amount of clinical research and trials on anti- hair loss treatments. It has 75 years of market presence globally and continues to expand further with new products and research.  The effectiveness of the products lies in Foltène’s active ingredients; Tricosaccaride® and Tricalgoxyl ®. Around the Clock Skincare with thisworks

If you haven’t heard of circadian rhythm, here’s a quick guide form thisworks as to what it is and how you can tailor your skincare routine around it.

Circadian rhythm is one of your body’s natural body clocks and it dictates your bodily functions: temperature, hormone release, metabolism, sleep, and cognitive function. thisworks consider themselves experts in circadian rhythm – they know how it affects your sleep patterns and what your skin needs in different phases, so we spoke to them to find out exactly how we become more in tune with our own circadian rhythm and the benefits that it brings.

thisworks split the circadian rhythm into 4 phases: night, wake-up, daytime and evening. They started with the night phase because they believe that it is the most important of them all and know that the saying “with sleep comes beauty” is true! Here is their walk through of around the clock skin care:

The Night Phase

We believe that sleep should be the first step in every skincare routine, as this is the time when the skin repairs and regenerates. However, skin also suffers from trans-epidermal water loss (water loss through the skin), which means that it might get dehydrated.

When you can’t sleep or you suffer with broken sleep, these repairs can’t be made as well as they should. Beautiful skin really does start with a good night’s sleep.

How can we help?

Can’t sleep? Try our award-winning deep sleep pillow spray, to help reduce sleep anxiety and improve sleep quality. Our unique blend of 100% natural fragrance of lavender, camomile and vetivert has been proven to work by fMRI studies.

deep sleep pillow spray - thisworks

89% fell asleep faster than normal.*

*In a study of 100 subjects and 100 ex-prescription users compared to no product.

If you can’t stay asleep, try our sleep plus pillow spray to restore healthy sleep patterns and support a longer, less interrupted sleep. It’s slow-release and motion-activated system provides sleep support throughout the night and it is proven to give you up to 2 hours of extra sleep a night**.Sleep plus pillow spray - thisworks

96% had a less disturbed sleep***.

**In a study of 23 subjects, use of sleep plus pillow spray resulted in a mean increase in the total sleep time of two hours and three minutes per subject compared to no product.

***Independently tested on 200 participants with sleep problem, aged 18+ over a 14-day period, compared to a placebo.

The Wake-Up Phase

Upon waking, skin can be dull, dehydrated and irritated, and its barrier function might be impaired. The DNA repair is less active and skin is susceptible to UV damage and needs to moisturised and protected.

Morning Expert - thisworks

Re-hydrate with our morning expert hyaluronic serum, containing a 2% hyaluronic complex with Vitamin C to brighten and plump tired looking skin. Next up, whatever the weather, make sure to wear a broad spectrum SPF. Try our in transit skin defence SPF 30 for everyday, UV protection.

The Daytime Phase

During the day your skin takes its own measures to protect itself from day-to-day stress and  environmental aggressors. Stress levels can fluctuate throughout the day and busy skin needs support to make it through the day looking and feeling healthy.

Stress check - thisworks

Our Perfect body care range, with a shortlist of skin-loving ingredients helps your skin to remain radiant and energised throughout the day, boosting your confidence. And if the day is getting a bit too much take a deep breath of our stress check breathe in, containing eucalyptus, frankincense and lavender essential oils to help clear the mind and reduce tension.

The Evening Phase

This phase is all about preparation for your nighttime repair. Hydration and DNA repair is boosted and skin is more receptive to absorption of topical treatments, making it a great time to use skincare with super-active ingredients. However, skin has also accumulated environmental pollutants and needs to be thoroughly cleansed.

Clay Mask - thisworks

Try the deep cleansing heros from our Evening Detox range, which blends purifying actives to naturally decongest with calming ingredients to help reduce redness. Our anti-pollution purifying mask with malachite and kaolin is a 10- minute skin detox, helping to protect against environmental aggressors.

The 28 Day Hormonal Cycle

As women, our hormones are constantly in flux throughout the month, and don’t we know it!? Whether it’s an unexpected outpouring of tears at a KFC advert, unbridled rage at crumbs left on the kitchen side, or the unwavering feeling that one must have chocolate (all from personal experience), Hormones can play havoc in what is otherwise a fairly well-balanced individual.

But why do these hormones affect us so, and what is the point?

A Breakdown Of The Main Hormones

Hormones

There are fifty hormones in the human body, but three, in particular, are involved in the physical and emotional peaks and troughs women experience throughout their menstrual cycle.

1. Progesterone

Produced by the ovary, progesterone plays an important role in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy. Most of us will never have a need to think twice about progesterone, as its effects are predominantly internal. However, women who don’t produce enough progesterone are likely to have heavy and irregular periods.

2. Testosterone

A hormone found in much higher quantities in men than in women, testosterone is produced by the reproductive and adrenal glands. High levels of testosterone can lead to irregular or absent periods, acne and increased body hair. Low levels of testosterone will often result in low libido.

3. Oestrogen

Oestrogen actually consists of a group of hormones: estriol, estradiol, and estrone, and is produced predominantly in the ovaries. It is one of the most important hormones in the female body, responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle and controlling the growth of the uterine lining. High levels of oestrogen can result in weight gain and irregular periods, while low levels can cause absent periods, mood swings, headaches and depression.

Oh the female reproductive system, what a joy!

The Four Menstrual Phases

Tummy Pain - Hormones

The 28 day menstrual cycle can be split into four different phases: menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation, the luteal phase. Each phase has a different ratio of hormones circulation, and as such, different effects on the mind and body.

Stage 1: Menstruation

The only phase of the menstrual cycle that most of us pay any attention to, menstruation represents the beginning and end of the cycle. Every month, unless an egg has been fertilized, the body sheds its uterine lining. Over an average duration of 3-7 days, a combination of blood, mucus and uterine lining is expelled from the body, and the cycle begins again.

Stage 2: Follicular Phase

The follicular phase lasts 15 days, beginning during menstruation and ending at ovulation. During the follicular phase, the ovary produces 5-20 nodules onto its surface. These nodules, or follicles, are precursors to eggs, only one of which will mature. As these nodules grow, the uterus is stimulated into thickening its lining ready for the potential of pregnancy.

Stage 3: Ovulation

The Ovulation Phase is incredibly important if you wish to increase your chances of falling pregnant, as it’s when you are at your most fertile. The ovulation window lasts approximately 24 hours and is when the mature egg is released from the surface of the ovary, usually around two weeks before the next menstrual cycle is due to start.

Stage 4: Luteal Phase

There’s a lot of chemistry that happens during the luteal phase (most of which is thoroughly uninteresting unless you have a specific interest in the subject), but essentially, this is the stage in which the follicular lining which once surrounded a mature egg attached to the uterine wall.

This residual cluster of cells, called a corpus luteum, releases an increasing amount of progesterone, encouraging the uterus to make itself a hospitable accommodation in case of pregnancy. If a fertilised egg implants into the uterine wall, the progesterone will continue to circulate at a high level, if not, the progesterone levels drop and the lining is expelled as menstruation.

Dealing With Hormonal Flux

Hormone Levels & Your Cycle Chart

As you can see from the above graph, the hormonal changes that a woman’s body goes through over 28 days is dramatic. While some women have barely perceptible symptoms, others are not so lucky. If you have problem periods, allbeauty may be able to offer some relief.

Cramping

Period cramps are caused by the uterus contracting in order to shed it’s lining. While this a rather clever self-cleaning method, most of us would rather do without the accompanying muscle spasms and dagger-like pain. While over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen can go a long way, nothing is quite as relaxing as a hot soak in the tub. We recommend using a bath oil, such as Cowshed’s Calming Bath and Body Oil. Not only will the heat soothe your aches and pains, but the oil is nourishing for your skin and the scent of lavender and eucalyptus calm the mind. If you prefer to avoid baths during your period, this can also be used as a body oil pre or post-shower.

Cramps - Hormones

Hormonal Skin

If your skin erupts at the same time every month without fail, preventative action is the best course of action. Soothe hormonal skin with a product designed to target breakouts on adult skin. Murad Anti-Aging Blemish Control does just this, and thanks to its clever formulation, can be used without the risk of drying out your skin in between flares.

Hormonal Skin - Hormones

PMS and Mood Swings

Scientists aren’t certain what causes PMS (Premenstrual syndrome), but it’s believed to be linked to the changing levels of oestrogen, progesterone and mood-regulating hormone, serotonin. While we can’t provide you with a cure for PMS or monthly mood swings, we can recommend Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Mind Roller Ball for relaxation on the go. Containing bitter orange, rosemary and wild chamomile essential oils, this pocket-sized roller can be applied to your pressure points when you feel stress building for a mini-moment of mindfulness.

Mood Swings - Hormones

Fatigue

Many women experience fatigue or extreme tiredness while menstruating. This is thought to be caused by the decrease in oestrogen levels at this point in the cycle. The best way to take care of yourself during this phase is by unapologetically allowing yourself to rest and recharge. Forgo evening screentime, head to bed early, and increase the chances of deep sleep by using a relaxing fragrance in your bedroom. Award-winning Deep Sleep Pillow Spray by This Works is a customer favourite, with notes of lavender, patchouli and camphor.

Fatigue - Hormones

The 28 day hormonal cycle is something that most of us deal with month in, month out, without stopping to consider what a great job we’re doing. The world doesn’t stop turning, and we push on to fulfil our responsibilities, regardless of the disturbance raging inside. If ever there was a reason to treat yourself to something special, whether it be scented bath oil or a bar of chocolate, this is it.

Relax - Hormones

Taking Care of Your Skin During Menopause

Going through menopause is difficult for all manner of reasons; your complexion shouldn’t be one of them. A large proportion of women find that entering the menopause plays havoc with their skin. Fluctuating hormones can cause flare-ups of acne and exacerbate combination skin, while there seems to be a sudden increase in the number of fine lines and wrinkles staring back from the mirror. While it’s no secret that this phase of life can be challenging, we’re pleased to say that by adopting a menopause-specific skin routine and using products targeted at aging skin, you can get back to feeling like yourself in no time.

Menopause and the Face

Your face is one of the first places to show the effects of menopause, with many women experiencing acne breakouts for the first time since their teens. Often, menopause can exacerbate existing conditions too, whether it be dryness or discolouration. With this in mind here are our top 5 favourite products for acne:

Investing in a good night cream allows you to get a headstart on the coming day by giving your skin everything it needs to recover and repair overnight. For example, Utopia Nourishing Night Cream encourages cell renewal and aids the skin’s outermost layer to eliminate dead cells. Two birds – one stone.

The Skin Around Your Eyes

The delicate skin surrounding the eyes is even more prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles, due to its location and fragile nature. As the skin is so thin, you should avoid using your usual face cream around the eyes, instead, choose a product which is suitably gentle.

An allbeauty favourite, Utopia Instant Firming Eye Serum has been shown not only to reduce the appearance of fine lines and crow’s feet, but to reduce dark circles and calm puffiness.

Hands, Neck and Decolletage

While most of us remember to moisturise our face daily, there are a few common areas which are missed. These left-behind areas are, unsurprisingly, the first to show the signs of aging.

The skin on our hands, neck and decolletage are exposed to the sun just as often as our face, which is why they so often succumb to discolouration, dryness and wrinkling. The decolletage and neck can also lose elasticity over time, resulting in a ‘crepe’ or ‘draped’ effect. Thankfully, products such as the Utopia Age Defying Hand, Neck and Decolletage Serum have been designed to target this exact complaint, firming, smoothing and toning these problem areas.

And The Rest…

While the face, hands, neck and decolletage are all more obvious places for menopause symptoms to strike, that isn’t to say the rest of the body is safe. Whether it’s your knees, elbows, arms, or elsewhere, wrinkles can start to appear in all manner of places.

This skin is thicker than other areas of the body, so requires a moisturiser which is able to penetrate deeper. An age-specific, gel-based moisturiser, like Utopia Enriching Derma Gel can hydrate and repair large areas of skin while plumping and brightening problem zones.

Toolkit to Lower Your Anxiety

By Nicola Elliott, Founder NEOM Organics London

I’m not a calm person, I wish I was. I am a full-on ball of energy (and have burnt the candle at both ends) kind-of-girl. My default state is busy, busy, BUSY AND it’s probably why I suffered (and still do) from anxiety, which happens to be one of the reasons I turned to blending essentials oils to help. The NEOM Lifestyle Audit from March this year revealed that a third of the UK population suffer from stress on a regular basis – so seems it’s not just me!

So, I turned to essential oils and found blending the right ones were a massive help. In particular the blend I started with was what we now call Real Luxury with 24 different oils to work their absolute hardest for you if you’re prone to stress, or like me, anxiety. If you are not a naturally calm person, then I believe you have to learn to create calm with modern remedies for modern life. I am able to manage it every day with these oils and a bit of a wellbeing tool kit.

In a recent NEOM wellbeing article we interviewed Emily Wysock-Wright – a wellness expert and founder of self re-discovery programme, Adira who says her top tips for lowering anxiety are things like having a bath; “this is my place to cleanse my thoughts and gain perspective. Essential oils can be great for anxiety and relieving stress and I love adding lavender or chamomile to my bath.” Says Emily. She recommends trying a supplement and eating chocolate too.

It’s really important to note that what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another, so you have to find your own tool kit. It takes time to get it right BUT here are a few things that work for me…

  1. Move. Yep exercise. I love the saying that our friends over at FRAME have which is ‘support your local endorphin dealer’ – which is so true. Endorphins are good for everything!
  2. Meditate. I use the Calm app when I can (this is one of the hardest things for me to do!)
  3. Use NEOM Real Luxury oils amongst it all. My fav’s are the Magnesium Body Buttercandle (or the Essential Oil Blend in my Wellbeing Pod if time is limited and I need an instant boost) and I keep the On The Go Mist and Pulse Point handy (and use the 7/11 breathing technique alongside). Wherever I go, they go!
  4. Supplements – Magnolia Rhodiola.
  5. Reading. I find good books can reside my brain! I rate Solve for Happy by Mo Gawdat.

Hormones & Pregnancy: Understand The Changes

During pregnancy, your body goes through a whole range of amazing changes, to help the baby develop and to prepare you for giving birth. We want to help you understand the changes to your hormones that come with pregnancy, with tips for your partner on how to help you feel supported, understood and cared for during your pregnancy.

Hormonal Changes in Pregnancy

Some of the physical changes you may experience during your pregnancy include fluid retention, hair loss, nail brittleness and stretch marks. You may no longer enjoy the taste of foods you liked or find yourself craving foods you used to hate – and you might experience an increased sensitivity to certain smells. You’ll also experience fluctuating hormone levels – hormones play a vital role in pregnancy, aiding in foetal development and preparing you for childbirth.

The 5 main hormones at work during pregnancy are:

1. Oestrogen

Along with progesterone, oestrogen is one of the chief pregnancy hormones. Oestrogen levels increase significantly in pregnancy and help with the development of the foetus, aiding in the growth of organs and other bodily systems. Oestrogen can also cause nausea and make ligaments softer, putting pressure on your pelvis and lower back.

2. Progesterone

Increases in progesterone during pregnancy cause loosening of ligaments and joints throughout the body. This hormone works to transform the size of your uterus so that it can accommodate your growing baby.

3. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG)

Only made during pregnancy, hCG levels spike during the first trimester. This hormone can be associated with vomiting and nausea during pregnancy, as women with severe morning sickness (Hyperemesis Gravidarum) tend to have higher levels of hCG than other pregnant women. Although some nausea is very common in early pregnancy and affects up to 80% of women, only around 1 to 3 in every 100 pregnant women experience severe morning sickness (HG).

4. Human Placental Lactogen (hPL)

This hormone is made in the placenta and nourishes the developing baby. It also stimulates the milk glands in your breasts for breastfeeding.

5. Oxytocin

Oxytocin plays a key role in triggering contractions when labour starts. Prior to pregnancy, this hormone appears in low levels and then spikes towards the end of the pregnancy. Often called the ‘love hormone’, oxytocin helps us feel good, and is associated with feelings of bonding and motherhood.

Pregnancy Hormones and Mood Swings

It’s entirely normal for your moods to become a bit unpredictable during pregnancy, even if you haven’t been prone to mood swings before. One of the causes of mood swings in pregnancy is the change in your hormone levels. Significant changes in your hormone levels can affect your level of neurotransmitters, the brain chemicals that regulate mood.

The good news is your mood swings should become more manageable once you’ve passed your first trimester, as your hormonal changes tend to settle down by this point. But if you still feel like your changes in mood are getting the better of you, don’t worry. Your body is going through a whole lot of changes, and even without the hormonal changes at work, being pregnant can still be an emotional rollercoaster, filled with excitement as well as anxiety.

Here are some tips to help you manage mood swings:

  • It’s important to know that what you’re experiencing is normal and also that it’s not your fault, so don’t blame yourself. Blame the hormones!
  • Stay calm and be patient with yourself – don’t try to be a superwoman and take on too much.
  • Talk to your partner. Be honest and tell them how you’re feeling. They’ll be glad you’ve opened up and shared what you’re going through, and will want to find ways they can help.
  • Try to get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep has been shown to have a significant impact on mood and reduces our ability to control and process emotions, so get as much rest as you can.
  • Have a change of scene – a trip to the cinema with your friend or partner can help you relax and reframe.

How your partner can support you during pregnancy

Your partner plays a really important role during your pregnancy, and studies show that having a supportive partner should lower your stress levels and help you keep a positive outlook. What’s more, it’s not always going to be smooth sailing during pregnancy – especially with your hormones putting you through your paces – so lean on your partner for support.

Here’s how your partner can support you throughout your pregnancy:

  • Go with you to your doctor’s appointments.
  • Help you in making decisions, e.g. prenatal tests and making a birth plan.
  • Go to antenatal classes with you – this will also give Dads-to-be information and confidence about what to expect during your baby’s birth, and in the first few months as a new parent.
  • Practical help, such as cooking and cleaning. Especially in the early stages of pregnancy, the smell of cooking can be unpleasant for mums-to-be, so partners should be on hand to help in the kitchen. They could also take over more of the household chores and carry heavy shopping.
  • Offer emotional support by encouraging and reassuring you. Just being there and listening, so that you know you’re going through it together, can make all the difference.
  • Spend quality time with each other.
  • Join you in making healthy lifestyle changes. If you’re planning to make some changes to your diet during pregnancy such as eating more fruit and veg, why not do it together? Likewise, if you’re giving up smoking, you’re more likely to do it successfully if your partner stops too.

Some of the changes you’ll experience during pregnancy may feel scary or overwhelming, but your body really is incredible! Even though at times it might feel like your hormones are playing havoc with your mood, remember they have a very important job to do. Try to embrace the whole experience, take time for yourself, and ask for support when you need it.

Time For You

Hands up if you’re getting enough “me time” in your week? Anyone? That’s what we thought. Taking time to prioritise your own physical and mental wellbeing can often feel like an indulgence. There’s washing to be done, dishes to do, box sets to catch up on… we get it! But the old adage that you can’t pour from an empty cup really is true, and something all of us, particularly if we have family members depending on us, should take heed of.

Where does one even start on this self-care journey? Fret not allbeauty readers, as always, we’re here to point you in the right direction. Here are a few easy tasks you can incorporate into your day to make sure you stay looking and feeling great all week long.

Monday: Start the Week Hydrated

Eugh, Mondays. The weekend is officially over and its straight back to the daily grind. Do yourself a favour and make Monday the day you really focus on hydrating yourself.

Water Splash Wide - Time for You

Too many of us dip in and out of dehydration simply because we forget to sip on a bottle of water throughout the day. Well, no more! Starting with just one day a week, focus on getting enough water into your system, the rest will follow.

For bonus points, pop this Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Hydrating Mist into your bag and give your face a spritz throughout the day to hydrate from the outside-in.

Tuesday: Hair Care and Chill

Combine two self-care winners into one, by taking care of your tresses while enjoying some downtime on the sofa. We can’t all get to the salon regularly (or even bi-annually, ahem), but with such a great range of hair treatments available, its never been easier to bring the salon experience into the comfort of your own home.

Hair care - Time for You

One of our favourites is multi-award winning Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3, designed to repair and restore the hair’s cuticle. And better still, it works best when left for at least 10 minutes, so grab a cuppa, put your feet up, and let it do its thing.

Wednesday: Put Your Best Face Forward

You’ve made it to hump day, the weekend is in sight! Prep that skin for whatever the rest of the week throws at you with an at-home facial.

Face Mask - Time for You

Now, in a perfect world we’d all be regularly exfoliating and using a face mask, but let’s face it, sometimes life gets in the way! Once a week, make skincare your priority and take the time to give yourself a quality facial. Cleanse as normal, then use an appropriate exfoliator to remove any dead cells and dirt, before applying a moisturising face mask. Your skin will thank you!

Thursday: Early To Bed, Early to Rise

We know it’s not the most glamorous form of self-care, but getting an early night can make a world of difference to your energy levels, mood and general sense of wellbeing. At least once a week, try to climb into bed an hour earlier than usual. In general, we need around 8 hours of sleep a night, but another few hours will only do you good!

Sleep - Time for You

Changing your sleep habits can be difficult, so if you find yourself wide-eyed and staring at the ceiling, try creating an environment more conducive to sleep. Settling down with a good book can tip the scales toward sleep, and relaxing scents can also help lull you off to the land of nod.

Friday: Soak Up The Weekend

Ooooh yeah! Do you have that weekend feeling yet? Well, there’s no better way to say farewell to the working week than by washing your stress away with a good long soak in the tub. Nothing is quite as relaxing as submerging yourself into a hot bath. Nothing, that is, except for submerging yourself into a hot bath that has added sumptuousness.

Bath and Body - Time for You

Get all sudsy with one of our foamy bath soaks, unwind aching muscles with a fragrant bath oil, or feel the fizz with one of the gorgeous range of Bomb Cosmetics bath bombs. Additional fizz in the form of a glass of wine optional, but always recommended. It’s officially the weekend, after all.

Mani/Pedi - Time for You

Our feet and hands are so hard-working, but they rarely get shown the same attention we give to our face and hair. Pamper yourself with a moisturising foot mask, while you deal with those cuticles and touch up your nails.

Body Scrub - Time for you

At a cost of £60+ a session, a body scrub is a great way to slough off the dry skin or lotion build-up that makes your skin uneven. The best part? If you’re willing to put in the work yourself (or can rope in a willing partner), you can get the same results at home.
