Women’s Perfume Gift Guide – How To Choose

Our women’s perfume gift guide takes you through the main fragrance groups, showing you how to choose the perfect scent. Plus we pick some great gift options from each group.

Use our women’s perfume gift guide if you want to shop fragrance but don’t know where to start! Ideal for birthdays, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Floral Perfume
The easiest fragrance to spot! If she loves the smell of roses, freesias, daisies – in fact any florals, then a floral perfume is the one to choose. There are so many options to choose from here, but let’s play it safe and choose scents that will appeal to most. We adore Ghost The Fragrance – in a bottle shaped like the female form, it’s a soft, floral fragrance that any woman will adore. From just £19.95 it’s also very affordable.

Possibly the most famous floral perfume, Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette (be sure to choose the EDT!) is a massive seller. With a bottle inspired by Murano glass and created by the Jimmy Choo co-founder Tamara Mellon (you can read our full guide to Jimmy Choo scents here). It’s glam, glam glam! We’ve linked to the 100ml but there are even more savings to be had in smaller sizes, notably the 40ml which makes a fabulous stocking filler.

Oriental Perfume
Does she prefer heavier scents? Musky cinnamon, spicy fragrance, warm and sugary scents with vanilla? If the answer is yes, then oriental scents are the ones to choose. A word of warning: unless you’re really sure these are for her, then choose another group. They’ll really be too heavy for anyone not into oriental fragrance. The bestseller in the oriental perfume group is Calvin Klein Euphoria Eau de Parfum.

For something a little different, Laura Biagiotti’s Roma is a very affordable treat. A blend of crisp and fruity resins and evening flowers with base notes of vanilla and musk.

Woody Perfume
If she loves a scent with mossy, earthy notes, then a woody fragrance is the one to choose. Think cedarwood, sandalwood and vetiver. Chopard’s The Wish is an immensely popular scent, an elegant, refreshing, woody fragrance that contains a blend of woodsy and spicy florals, with notes of patchouli, incense, sandalwood and amber.

Thierry Mugler’s Alien is a modern woody scent. Jasmine Sambac and a hint of orange blossom combine to give a unique fragrance that’s often described as “sexy, sensual and uplifting”!

Aromatic Perfume

Does she love the scent of grass and herbs (think lavender, rosemary, basil and sage)? Then aromatic fragrance is a great one to choose. We love Penhaligon’s Lavandula Eau de Parfum.

For a more affordable option, Burberry Brit Rhythm has top notes of English lavender, with pink pepper, orange blossom and cedar.

Citrus Perfume

Does she love the clean, zesty scent of lemon, orange and mandarin? Or maybe she’s not a fragrance fan at all?! Then citrus scents are a great choice! Universally popular, they’re fresh and subtle. Davidoff Cool Water Woman is a very clean fragrance suitable for all, and at very affordable prices. Notes of citrus and pineapple blend with the scent of fresh, ocean air.

Fruity Perfume

Does she love the scent of apples, peaches, blackcurrants – in fact, any fruit? Then a fruity fragrance is for her. We adore Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire (if in doubt, choose the eau de toilette) – we don’t think any woman would be sorry to receive this beauty! With a fruity, blackcurrant scent, this is sophistication in a bottle:

Thank You For The Music – and the fragrance!

No self-respecting celebrity would forget to launch a fragrance, but what may surprise you is this: there are some corkers out there! Here’s our pick of bestselling perfume from the world of music.

Beyonce
At the time of writing Beyoncé has no less than 9 fragrances to her name but Heat is her first and most iconic. It’s a sweet and musky scent, with top notes of peach and neroli. In spite of its name it’s actually a well loved winter scent so don’t be afraid to gift it at any time of year.
(As an added bonus watch her behind the scenes video below of the official Heat commercial)

Jessica Simpson
This may surprise you: Jessica has FIFTEEN perfumes under her belt! One of our favourites and a bestseller is Jessica Simpson Fancy. Top notes of pear apricot and red berries combine with warm, caramel undertones. Great if you also like Viva La Juicy Noir or Diesel Loverdose Tattoo.

Katy Perry
Katy’s fragrances now include the iconic Purr, Meow and Royal Revolution, but we love Killer Queen. Inspired by the Queen song and in a bottle shaped like a ruby, it’s fruity with strong scents of patchouli.
See the extended commercial here (yes it does feature The Song):

Rihanna
A no brainer for us, Rihanna’s scents are all amazing and best of all (in our opinion) is Reb’l Fleur. Think coconut with florals, it’s the scent of the summer and utterly delicious. Very affordable and matters not one jot if you aren’t even a Rihanna fan – we say buy it!!

Lady GaGa
Lady G’s first perfume was launched in 2012 on an unusual premise – instead of the usual pyramid structure, all ingredients were created equal to make an overall push-pull effect. The result is a mix of belladonna, orchid and honey and remains a runaway bestseller to this day.

Madonna
It would be a travesty if a pop icon like Madonna didn’t her her own fragrance, happily she has 2 signature lines – Truth or Dare and Truth or Dare Naked, both massive favourites with allbeauty.com fans. Truth or Dare is aimed at women aged 35 – 45 and has top notes of neroli, gardenia and tuberose, a white floral bouquet.

Britney Spears
We’re completely serious when we describe Britney Spears as a Perfume Powerhouse. Britney’s scent catalogue is now vast, with many fans collecting them for their fabulous bottles as much as for their fragrance. It was very hard to choose just one but Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy is such a favourite with allbeauty.com customers it had to be this. Top notes of plum and black cherry and with a strapline of “what happens to you when the clock strikes twelve” make the combination irresistible!

image

Taylor Swift
She may be young but Taylor Swift is regularly top of the charts when it comes to fragrance. Her latest and fourth offering, Incredible Things, is currently out of stock due to massive demand (don’t worry, it’s due back soon!). It’s not hard to see why: pink pepper and grapefruit with orchid and vanilla make this a fun, flirty combination that’s clean and floral. See Taylor talking about Incredible Things in her behind the scenes video. If you’d like an alert as soon as it comes back into stock, just email info@allbeauty.com

Cheryl
Still fairly new to the perfume world, Cheryl currently has Storm Flower and Storm Flower Noir to her name. Storm Flower is a beautiful mix of mandarin, nectarine, freesia and peach blossom making it oh-so-feminine. We’ll confess: this one’s on our desk right now, it’s ideal for work and gets the thumbs up every time we spray!

Jennifer Lopez
Another powerhouse of the perfume world, J-Lo continues to outsell her younger pretenders year on year. Glow is probably her signature scent and although it’s nearly 14 years old (!) it’s our top pick: fresh, sexy and clean with top notes of orange, grapefruit and citrus. It’s subtle and sophisticated and makes a fabulous gift or surprise stocking filler.

image

Justin Bieber
The first fragrance by the pop icon was Someday and is a very creditable fruity scent that wouldn’t be out of place on Mum’s dressing table. A stunning bottle with a cute heart-and-key clip which can be taken off and re-used, this is a very worthy scent in a collection by the Canadian star.

image

Pharrell Williams
He’s relatively new to fragrance but with a design like this, you just have to love Pharrell’s fragrance ‘GIRL’. Actually for men and women (despite the name) it’s a fresh woody scent with neroli and lavender.

image

Sean John
Undoubtedly a name you wouldn’t associate with fragrance, Sean ‘Diddy’ John Combs actually has a range of scents for men and women, that continue to delight new and old fans. Well worth a look, they may very well surprise you…
