Home Fragrance Gifts – Our Top Picks For Christmas 2016

Looking for home fragrance gifts this year? From candles to room mists, there’s a gift for everyone. We pick our favourites at allbeauty.

Home fragrance gifts are always welcome, and a great option for those who don’t wear scent. Did you know? There are a whopping 80 candles on-site right now, from brands including Molton Brown, Penhaligon’s, thisworks, NEOM Organics, Orla Kiely and Cowshed (phew!).

Christmas Scents
For a Christmas-themed scent, the Arran Sense of Christmas range is ideal, with fragrances including cinnamon and mandarin (available as candles or diffusers). Also, don’t miss the new Elemis candles, which come beautifully boxed in a mirrored holder – these are great for teachers, secret santa and older teens. And if the budget can stretch, Molton Brown’s orange and bergamot 3 wick candle is a luxurious festive scent with heart notes of ginger and base notes of musk. What a great way to set the scene on Christmas Day as your guests arrive.

Relaxing Scents
For the at-home spa sensation, NEOM Organics is our go-to range. For something a little different, try one of their treatment candles – light the wick and burn for 30 minutes, then once a pool of oil has formed blow out the candle and allow to cool slightly, before you pour over any area of the body in need of nourishing treatment. A lovely treat for those with stiff or aching joints. If tradtional de-stressing isn’t on your radar, then try thisworks black spice and cedar candle with essential oils. This is relaxation but without a hint of lavender or chamomile. But candles don’t just have to relax, Cowshed Uplifting Travel Candles are a fab way to wake up in the morning – they’re also 100% natural soy wax and suitable for vegetarians.

Statement Candles
If you’re looking for a single, large, statement gift, then go for a luxury 3 wick candle. Our Penhaligon’s range are packed with essential oils and burn for up to 110 hours! Yes they’re heavy on the budget but they pack a serious wow. Staying with luxury but lighter on the budget are our Molton Brown 3 wick candles and 100% guaranteed to impress. As a general guide when buying larger candles, look for 1) burn time 2) ingredients (preferably essential oils) and 3) the number of wicks. These are all indicators of size and quality.

If a candle doesn’t appeal then choose a diffuser. These clever jars of scented oil can be placed around the house to slowly give off scent over a number of weeks. And unlike pot pourri they really work! Plus the recipient can usually buy a replacement bottle of oil to refill once empty. For a gentle, fresh, citrus scent try Arran home fragrance. Otherwise an Orla Kiely diffuser is guaranteed to be popular and again makes a great gift by itself. For a friend who finds it hard to sleep, a NEOM Organics Tranquility diffuser will be very welcome.

Men’s Party Season Hair – Tips & Products

Men’s Party Season Hair – Keep It Simple

At this time of year we’re all working hard, which often means leaving the office late. Heading from office to party or from gym to party? Look for products that multi-task.

Men's Party Season Hair Paul Mitchell Mitch Double Hitter is a shampoo and conditioner in one, with a fresh, clean scent. It also gives the hair some weight (so no annoying fly-aways) and is perfect if you’re heading straight from work or the gym and need a quick shower!

The conditioning ingredients also detangle and leave a soft, light finish.

Want to gift? Paul Mitchell Mitch Double Hitter is available in various sets and also in a salon size.

No time to shower? Try a dry shampoo such as Label M Texturising Volume Spray to give an instant refresh, plus added volume and texture.

For styling, use a product that can be re-worked. Celebrity Men’s Grooming Expert Diana Schmidtke recommends Paul Mitchell Mitch Clean Cut.
Men's Party Season Hair

I like using Mitch Clean Cut because it’s a pliable moldable paste. It allows for movement and what’s great about it is girls will be able to run their hands through your hair all day without it getting sticky or stuck! It’s really easy to reactivate with water so after the gym or after a workout you’ll be able to restyle it before you go out on a date. And it won’t flake or get too sticky.

We also love: Label M Matt Paste & TIGI Bed Head Men Pure Texture Molding Paste.

Men’s Party Season Hair – Style Basics

  • How you style your hair in the morning will set you up for the day. A simple trick for extra hair volume is to tip the hair upside down when blow drying. Or, if you prefer, you can use your fingers to pull the hair upright, whilst aiming the heat at the roots.
  • For even more volume, use a volume mousse on wet hair then blow dry to activate. The volume will last until your next wash. Try Label M Create Volume Mousse.
  • If you have thinning hair, try Paul Mitchell Mitch Construction Paste. This product (for messy/undone hair) contains tiny fibres that add more volume.

Men’s Party Season Hair – Up Your Game

Going to a big event and want glossy, celebrity locks? Celebrity Men’s Grooming Expert Diana Schmidtke recommends Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shine Spray and here’s why:

If you want to have perfect looking actor hair at your next event then I suggest you pick up some of this… it’s a lightweight spray shine, it’s a product for finishing so you want to use it at the end. For the perfect natural looking healthy hair. It’s not going to ruin your already existing perfect looking style. What it is going to do is add a perfect amount of shine.

mens party season hair

TIP Don’t be afraid to use hairspray, especially if you have longer layers on top. A quick blast will keep your style in place; we love KMS HairStay which adds hold and shine and has a pepper and pomegranate scent (it also easily brushes out).

Men’s Party Season Hair – Application Is Key!

  • As a rule, warm a 5p to 10p sized amount of product in your hands before applying. Ideally, the product should almost disappear before you apply it. That way you get even coverage.
  • Work product into the roots and then up to the tips – it’s super important to get product onto the roots, (especially if it’s a hold product or the hair just won’t stand up!).
  • More is not more! If your product isn’t giving you the hold you want, try something else. Otherwise you’ll just weigh down the hair and make it look greasy.

POLL RESULTS – Have You Started Christmas Shopping?

The Seasonal Savvy Shopper Guide

The seasonal savvy shopper needs a plan of action. We present (pun intended!) our tips on how to approach Christmas shopping, avoid stress and get the best deals.

seasonal savvy shopper
The seasonal savvy shopper should always be prepared. So get a proper piece of paper and a pen and make a list (if you prefer something hi-tech, we like ToDoist). To help you out, we’ve put together a list of people who sometimes get forgotten. Of course you don’t have to include everyone (unless you’re a millionaire), but is someone special included here?

  1. School: teachers, classroom assistants, dinner ladies, lollipop men/women, school mums, kids best friends, brownie/dance class leaders, bus driver
  2. Work: secret santa, watercooler best friend, boss, supplier
  3. Home: neighbours (especially elderly or anyone alone)
Keep a sticky note on your desk and jot down anyone who comes to mind.

If you haven’t already, sign up to the allbeauty.com newsletter and make sure you follow us on Facebook or Twitter. If it’s happening at allbeauty that’s where you’ll hear about it. Plus you may receive an email exclusive code or free gift. And from time to time we run email-only flash sales, so it really does pay to be in the know. Don’t worry, we don’t ever sell your details to other companies or pass them to 3rd party providers without permission, and you can always unsubscribe after Christmas (you meanie you!). You can register here or, if you’re already registered, just log in to My Account > Contact and Billing and tick the subscription box.

Don’t be afraid to split up a gift set *gasp*. We know, lovely packaging etc. etc. But sometimes it just makes sense to buy a set then split it up. Gift sets are always good value and individual items are cheaper than if you bought them alone. Plus you often find exclusives that aren’t available elsewhere. Then there’s Secret Santa – getting something nice on a tiny budget can be hard, so look out for sets you can split.

How about this Penhaligon’s scent library, where you can get 10 stocking filler fragrances from a bespoke Parfumier, for under £2 each! Or this Sarah Jessica Parker set that can be split into (gift one) the 100ml fragrance + (gift two) body lotion & rollerball, at a cost of just £11 for each gift (and a gorgeous storage box for you!). Consider it, that’s all we’re saying.

Know you’ll be buying fragrance, but don’t know their scent?
There are a few ways round this, so eyes down:

Espionage – the easy option, you rope in a spouse or take a detour past their bedroom and see what’s on the dresser
Subterfuge – next time you’re together say “wow what’s that fragrance you’re wearing? It’s lovely”. They’ll usually respond with “Oh it’s XYZ” or else tell you they don’t wear fragrance. If it’s the latter, pay attention to why (maybe they’re allergic) or what they think you’re smelling eg their soap (that’s a clue they like clean, fresh scents)
The Blatant Option – ask them! The earlier you do it, the less they’ll associate you asking with Christmas
Get Clever – encourage people to use our Christmas printables to hint/downright tell you what they want
If you’re really stuck but you don’t want to give a voucher, our advice is to buy a gentle fragrance then have it gift wrapped and dispatched direct by our team. That way the recipient can always exchange without you needing to know…
We suggest Ghost The Fragrance for her or Davidoff Cool Water For Men

It’s easy to get carried away – this is where the seasonal savy shopper’s trusty list comes in! Next to each name write a fragrance or gift idea and a rough amount you want to spend. Use our Christmas shop to shop by price or category and you’ll easily stay on-budget.

We hope you enjoyed our seasonal savvy shopper tips – have some of your own? Comment below or leave us a message on our social accounts, we’d love to hear from you!

Thank You For The Music – and the fragrance!

No self-respecting celebrity would forget to launch a fragrance, but what may surprise you is this: there are some corkers out there! Here’s our pick of bestselling perfume from the world of music.

At the time of writing Beyoncé has no less than 9 fragrances to her name but Heat is her first and most iconic. It’s a sweet and musky scent, with top notes of peach and neroli. In spite of its name it’s actually a well loved winter scent so don’t be afraid to gift it at any time of year.
(As an added bonus watch her behind the scenes video below of the official Heat commercial)

Jessica Simpson
This may surprise you: Jessica has FIFTEEN perfumes under her belt! One of our favourites and a bestseller is Jessica Simpson Fancy. Top notes of pear apricot and red berries combine with warm, caramel undertones. Great if you also like Viva La Juicy Noir or Diesel Loverdose Tattoo.

Katy Perry
Katy’s fragrances now include the iconic Purr, Meow and Royal Revolution, but we love Killer Queen. Inspired by the Queen song and in a bottle shaped like a ruby, it’s fruity with strong scents of patchouli.
See the extended commercial here (yes it does feature The Song):

A no brainer for us, Rihanna’s scents are all amazing and best of all (in our opinion) is Reb’l Fleur. Think coconut with florals, it’s the scent of the summer and utterly delicious. Very affordable and matters not one jot if you aren’t even a Rihanna fan – we say buy it!!

Lady GaGa
Lady G’s first perfume was launched in 2012 on an unusual premise – instead of the usual pyramid structure, all ingredients were created equal to make an overall push-pull effect. The result is a mix of belladonna, orchid and honey and remains a runaway bestseller to this day.

It would be a travesty if a pop icon like Madonna didn’t her her own fragrance, happily she has 2 signature lines – Truth or Dare and Truth or Dare Naked, both massive favourites with allbeauty.com fans. Truth or Dare is aimed at women aged 35 – 45 and has top notes of neroli, gardenia and tuberose, a white floral bouquet.

Britney Spears
We’re completely serious when we describe Britney Spears as a Perfume Powerhouse. Britney’s scent catalogue is now vast, with many fans collecting them for their fabulous bottles as much as for their fragrance. It was very hard to choose just one but Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy is such a favourite with allbeauty.com customers it had to be this. Top notes of plum and black cherry and with a strapline of “what happens to you when the clock strikes twelve” make the combination irresistible!

Taylor Swift
She may be young but Taylor Swift is regularly top of the charts when it comes to fragrance. Her latest and fourth offering, Incredible Things, is currently out of stock due to massive demand (don’t worry, it’s due back soon!). It’s not hard to see why: pink pepper and grapefruit with orchid and vanilla make this a fun, flirty combination that’s clean and floral. See Taylor talking about Incredible Things in her behind the scenes video. If you’d like an alert as soon as it comes back into stock, just email info@allbeauty.com

Still fairly new to the perfume world, Cheryl currently has Storm Flower and Storm Flower Noir to her name. Storm Flower is a beautiful mix of mandarin, nectarine, freesia and peach blossom making it oh-so-feminine. We’ll confess: this one’s on our desk right now, it’s ideal for work and gets the thumbs up every time we spray!

Jennifer Lopez
Another powerhouse of the perfume world, J-Lo continues to outsell her younger pretenders year on year. Glow is probably her signature scent and although it’s nearly 14 years old (!) it’s our top pick: fresh, sexy and clean with top notes of orange, grapefruit and citrus. It’s subtle and sophisticated and makes a fabulous gift or surprise stocking filler.

Justin Bieber
The first fragrance by the pop icon was Someday and is a very creditable fruity scent that wouldn’t be out of place on Mum’s dressing table. A stunning bottle with a cute heart-and-key clip which can be taken off and re-used, this is a very worthy scent in a collection by the Canadian star.

Pharrell Williams
He’s relatively new to fragrance but with a design like this, you just have to love Pharrell’s fragrance ‘GIRL’. Actually for men and women (despite the name) it’s a fresh woody scent with neroli and lavender.

Sean John
Undoubtedly a name you wouldn’t associate with fragrance, Sean ‘Diddy’ John Combs actually has a range of scents for men and women, that continue to delight new and old fans. Well worth a look, they may very well surprise you…

The Top 10 Fragrances For Tweens

Girls love fragrance at any age, but pre-teens will love to open their very own perfume; make them feel special with a scent just for them. We at allbeauty have picked out the 10 best fragrances for Tweens and Pre-Teens.

Justin Bieber Someday

imageThe first fragrance by the pop icon, this is a very creditable fruity scent that wouldn’t be out of place on Mum’s dressing table (confession: your writer owns a bottle!). A stunning bottle with a cute heart-and-key clip which can be taken off and re-used. Actually a shame if she doesn’t like Bieber, this is rather lovely. As fragrances for tweens go, this is one of the best.

Katy Perry Purr Eau de Parfum

imagePeach with a hint of coconut and in a bottle that manages to be fun and glam at the same time, Katy’s first fragrance is adorable with a slightly grown up edge that an older tween will love. The box features Katy dressed in a catsuit in a sultry pose – perfectly tame but may not feel suitable for younger girls, we think age 11+.

One Direction That Moment

That Moment is the second fragrance from 1D (’Our Moment’ was the first, with ‘You and I’ third and the latest release being ‘Between Us’. Yes, 1D have 4 fragrances…) It’s a fresh, apple scent, in a bottle that’s pure glam – not that she’s that bothered, Harry et al know how it smells and that’s the important bit. It also has the boys on the box (of course).

Aquolina Pink Sugar Eau de Toilette

Considered a fragrance for any age, Aquolina is a sugary, sweet, very girly scent plus it’s also a bestseller. Very suitable for pre-teens or teenagers, but if the sugary scent doesn’t appeal then try Pink Sugar Simply Pink, a fruitier option.

Shawn Mendes Signature Eau de Parfum

The first fragrance by Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes is designed for both men and women. The fragrance is inspired by his Canadian roots and his passion for music. With top notes of Lemon and pineapple and base notes of White Cedar.

Ariana Grande Cloud Eau de Parfum

Cloud by Ariana Grande is a vibrant and floral fragrance. The box shows the face our your young teens idol and like the scent is vibrant and out there! Any little fashionista will love it, especially the link to Ariane Grande.

Moschino Chic Petals Eau de Toilette

Elegant and fun floral explosion (and in a gorgeous matching box), Chic Petals is for the cool, edgy, fashionista tween. Moschino Chic Petals is a fragrance for an ‘interesting’ teen, who moves in the flowery and luxuriant fields of her imagination with style and authority.

So there you have our top 10 fragrances for Tweens. If you have any suggestions of your own we’d love to hear them – just comment down below.
