The Festive Season Glow

The festive season is fast approaching, and in fact, many Christmas parties are already in full swing so if you haven’t yet turned your attention to your tanning, now is your chance. We’ve called on tanning experts Bellamianta to share their professional tips for party perfect skin, in just 4 steps.

P.S You can get and additional 10% off all our Sun and Tan shop (no minimum spend!) Use Code: TANME until Midnight Friday 25/10/19! ✨

There’s no doubt about it; the perfect party season accessory is always a gorgeous, golden glow. Christmas is all about sparkle, shimmer and shine so it’s time to up the ante when it comes to a skin-loving glow. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’ve got a couple of low-key events in the diary or it’s packed full of glitz and glam extravaganzas, ensure your tan is always on point with these simple, skin perfecting tips. ‘Tis the season to glow, after all.

Step 1: Prep is Key

While it can be easy to reach for your tan straight away, the key to a flawless finish is all about that base. To ensure your skin is in prime condition for tanning, exfoliate using a gentle scrub (such as our Triple Action Glycolic Body Scrub) and mitt thoroughly, 24-hours prior to tanning. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the skin’s outermost layer to help ensure even coverage on application. After exfoliating, moisturise your skin.

Step 2: Apply your tan

If you can, shower 30-minutes before application. This will enable your skin to return to its natural PH balance and allow time for your pores to close. Do not apply body lotion or deodorant before tanning. Make sure your underarms are deodorant free and avoid using any oil based products, as they can leave traces on the skin that can cause streaking.

For a long-lasting glow, our Rapid Self-Tanning Tinted Mousse is a winner, for good reason. The beauty of this tan, is that you are in control of its colour. Simply leave on for 2-hours for a light tan, wash off after 3-hours for a medium glow or for the darkest results, leave on for 6 or more hours. The mousse formula is super easy to use (even for tanning newbies), gliding over the skin and blending perfectly for a fabulous finish.

Step 3: Elevate your look

The Christmas party season definitely calls for next level tanning. Our Flawless Filter Body Make-Up is perfect for those festive nights out. A wash-off body and face makeup, it effortlessly blurs imperfections, while the special tinted formula is designed to bronze and gloss your skin instantly. It gives a HD finish that lasts all day long and looks so flawless that #nofilter is required on those festive photos.

A firm favourite with beauty bloggers and make-up artists, our Skin Perfecting Illuminating Bronzing Powder is unlike anything you have tried before. Just at the name suggests, this Bronzing Power works to perfect your skin while illuminating it for a glow that keeps on giving. The golden bronzing power cleverly reflects light, while offering subtle coverage, to give your skin a gorgeous, natural golden glow. Lightweight, ultra-fine pigments enhance the skin’s natural undertones for a truly unique skin perfecting finish. Plus, it’s suitable for use on both the face and body, making this one of the most versatile beauty products you could ever own!

Step 4: Keep the glow alive

Now that you’ve tanned you’ll want to keep the glow alive. Using our Self Tanning Gradual Moisturiser will not only keep your skin super hydrated, but it will deepen your tan and extend its duration too so when those last-minute Christmas catch-ups with friends roll around, you’ll definitely be ready. Plus, like all our Bellamianta products, it is packed full of skin-loving, organic ingredients, keeping it super soft and in tip-top condition.

This festive season, enjoy the greatest gift of all – a gorgeous, golden glow.

Don’t forget that you can get and additional 10% off all our Sun and Tan shop (no minimum spend!)

Best Waterproof Makeup Products for Winter

Between the rain, hail, sleet and snow, winter can quickly turn you from a Glamazon into a drowned raccoon. If you want to look your best whatever the weather, you need to have the right tools on hand, but which waterproof products should be a must in your beauty kit?

Eyes

  • Waterproof mascara, like the High Impact Waterproof Mascara from Clinique, is an absolute beauty essential for winter, ensuring that those lashes stay where they’re meant to throughout the day. But waterproof eye makeup doesn’t stop at just mascara!
  • For those evenings when you want a bold look, why not try magnetic lashes? Unlike traditional fake lashes which rely on glue, these Eylure Baroque corner lashes simply attach to lids using a magnetic applicator which comes included. No risk of your lashes sliding down your face with these!
  • To finish off the look, the Clarins Waterproof Eye Pencil is ideal for creating a smoky eye on a winter’s night out, this is one eye liner that really stands it’s ground! And if you want to avoid wayward brows, you won’t find better than Wunderbrow 1-Step Brow Gel by Wunder2.

Face

It’s all very well having perfect eye makeup, but that’s no help if your foundation is pooling around your collar.

  • With Estee Lauder’s Double Wear range, you can be confident that whatever winter throws at you, your face can handle it. With over 20 shades of foundation and even water-proof concealers in the range, these are the winter must-haves.
  • For a touch of colour, you can’t go wrong with Dior Addict Lip Tattoo, which provides lasting coverage unlike any other – up to 10 hours in fact. And for continuing the rosy cheeked look indoors and out, award-winning Benefit Benetint is a fantastic stain that can be used on both cheeks and lips.
  • Lastly, finish your makeup with a light spray of Glamglow Glowsetter. Not only will it keep your face in place, but as it’s infused with caffeine and tea extracts it will hydrate and invigorate your skin too. Result!

Best Windproof Hair Products for Winter

There’s a time and a place for that windswept look, and as luck would have it, it is usually neither here nor now. Whether you have fine hair which falls flat at the first sign of a breeze, or curly hair which gets a little over-excited with humidity, there’s a product to help balance your hair this winter.

  • Caught out by a sudden shower? Keep Frizz Dismiss by Redken in your office drawer to tame your hair, whatever the weather. This serum can be used on dry or wet hair and instantly reduces frizz.
  • For fine, flat hair, Kerastase Bouffant Styling Mousse is a godsend, amping up the volume from roots to tips. With built in heat protection and good hold, this is a must for using in conjunction with your curling tongs or rollers.
  • Curly ladies, we got you. You’ve got naturally voluminous hair, but, like cashmere, you’ve got to protect those delicate locks from the elements. Joico Humidity Blocker Hairspray does just that, creating a light protective barrier around each strand which blocks humidity and keeps your curls looking their best.

Which of these products will you be incorporating into your winter beauty regime this year? We’d love to hear what’s working for you.

Inside a Winter Scent

Our sense of smell is inextricably linked to memory. Whether it’s freshly cooked biscuits like mum used to make, that sweet smell of a baby’s head, or the combination of orange and clove at Christmas, one of the ways we reminisce is through aroma. It makes sense then, that people search for their ‘signature scent’, that cologne which becomes so synonymous with its wearer that one is reminded of them at the smallest sniff.

Whether you’re still searching out your signature fragrance or have one you wear year-round, this post is for you.

Why one signature fragrance isn’t enough.

Summer perfumes, with their fresh and citrus notes, are best worn when the days are warm as their lighter notes are projected by the heat in the air; these subtle elements are too easily muted by cold weather. Conversely, winter fragrances typically include heavier notes and larger molecules, allowing them to better project off the skin and carry beyond those thick winter scarves.

If you try to make a summer fragrance perform over winter, you’re fighting a losing battle.

How to find your winter scent.

Fragrances can be classified into one of eight families: Aromatic, Chypre, Citrus, Floral, Fougère, Leather, Oriental And Woody. Each category can be further split into multiple sub-families and with such a broad range of fragrances, there’s a scent for every season.

If you’re searching for your winter signature scent and are overwhelmed by the options, you may want to pinpoint a subfamily and start from there.  Two of our favourite options for a winter fragrance are Woody Musk and Spicy Oriental.

Woody Musks can be either floral or fruity and may have notes of sandalwood, pine, patchouli, vetiver or cedarwood.

Spicy Oriental Ambers combines spices like cinnamon and cloves with woods including sandalwood and atlas cedar.

Other notes that lend themselves fabulously to a winter perfume are ginger, nutmeg, star anise, vanilla, amber, myrrh and resin.

If all of this information is making your head spin – the allbeauty team has you covered.

Our favourite winter scents…

Shopping for a new fragrance needn’t be an arduous task. If you want a short shortlist, why not try one of these top picks.

For Women

#1 With fruity top notes of apricot and pomegranate, this may not immediately seem like a winter perfume, however, the base notes of Diesel’s Loverdose Red Kiss provide a heavy base that offsets the lighter notes perfectly. With patchouli, vanilla and sandalwood, you’re sure to love this sensuous scent.

#2 Award-winning and a firm favourite with allbeauty customers, Modern Muse Nuit by Estee Lauder combines florals with creamy woods to create a seductive fragrance that you’ll adore. Vanilla and tonka bean dominate the base notes, while chamomile and jasmine balance out the top notes.

#3 A more winter-friendly version of their classic Lady Million perfume, Lady Million Prive by Paco Rabanne is a delightful combination of woody notes, sweetened with honey, cacao, vanilla, and a touch of raspberry. Good enough to eat!

#4  A truly glamorous fragrance, Roberto Cavalli’s Nero Assoluto is a velvety scent which features orchid, vanilla and citrus juxtaposed against wood and ebony base notes.

For Men

#1 Wanted by Azzaro is an award-winning fragrance for men that combines fresh top notes of lemon and ginger with heavier middle and base notes. The scents of cardamom, vetiver and tonka bean make this a great winter scent.

#2 Another fantastic fragrance, this time from Boucheron, Quatre Absolu De Nuit Pour Homme sits within the spicy wood family and has notes of clary sage, lavender, nutmeg, black pepper, atlas cedar and vanilla.

#4 Boss brings us Boss Bottled Oud Saffron, a sensuous scent that features saffron, rose, and oud – some consider this to be unisex due it’s effortless combination of masculine depths with warm florals.

#5 Award-winning L’eau D’issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake is a classic scent that is incredibly versatile. A woody aquatic, it features top notes of juniper and bergamot with sage, vetiver, nutmeg, moss, cedar and sandalwood.

The Bounce Back

Start 2020 Right!

Christmas, a time for reflection, time spent with loved ones, and cheese… so much cheese.

If healthy eating and drinking in moderation didn’t feature high on your priority list over Christmas (solidarity), your skin is probably not looking its best.

Whether the festive period gifted you dull skin, dryness or fine lines that definitely weren’t there in November, we’ve got the solutions to help you start the year looking fresh-faced.

1. Cleanse, cleanse and cleanse some more.

Ok, three times might be overkill, but cleansing your face twice every night, aka ‘double cleansing’ is a super important part of any skincare routine. The first cleanse removes the layer of makeup, moisturiser and SPF, while the second cleanse addresses the skin itself. Without thorough cleansing, those expensive serums and moisturisers won’t be half as effective as much of it will stay above the surface of the skin.

Unsurprisingly, there are different cleansers designed for each stage of the process, with hard-working cream cleansers removing oil-based products, and gel or foam cleansers removing water-soluble dirt on the skin.

If you’re still using a single product to remove makeup and clean your skin, try one of these products for the second stage of your nightly cleanse.

2. Hydrate those skin cells!

Winter plays havoc with skin. Cold blasts from wind and rain, significant changes in temperature and dry central heating all play a part in creating a dehydrated complexion. Add too many glasses of wine or cups of tea into the mix (both are diuretics, expelling water and salt from your system), and you’re in for trouble.

The good news is, if you feel like you’ve suddenly aged overnight, it’s probably just dehydration. Make sure you have hyaluronic acid on hand to quickly replenish those skin cells to help banish fine lines and patchy skin.

3. Swap the moisturiser for a facial oil.

Another key way to combat winter dryness is by regularly feeding the skin with a facial oil. It might seem counterintuitive, but water dries out the skin, and its presence in winter cosmetics can severely impact your complexion especially if the temperature drops below zero. By using a facial oil a few times a week in place of your regular moisturiser, you’ll help to seal in moisture, plump the skin and protect it from environmental damage – all while keeping those flaky patches at bay.

With extracts of rosewood and patchouli, the Blue Orchid Treatment Oil by Clarins is sure to become a winter favourite.

4. Use an acid toner.

To buff away those dead cells and resurface your skin, there’s no better product than a chemical exfoliator. After cleansing, apply a few drops to a cotton wool pad and run it over your face to let the acid work it’s magic. Just be sure to wear an SPF under your makeup the following day as that newly exposed, baby-soft skin is more susceptible to sun damage.

We have a selection of acid toners available at allbeauty, but the one we’re in love with at the moment is The Organic Pharmacy Rose Diamond Exfoliating Cleanser.

5. Netflix and chill.

Now I don’t know about you, but to me, ‘Netflix and chill’ involves fleece pyjamas, a cosy blanket, the largest block of chocolate I can find, and a glass of vino. In these post-Christmas months we’re all trying to reduce our spending, so why not indulge in some at-home indulgence by adding a face mask to your Netflix binge sessions?

We love the Recovery Powerfoil Mask by Estee Lauder, and as it comes in a 4-pack, you could even invite a friend… if you don’t mind sharing your snacks of course.

There we are readers, everything you need to bounce back from Christmas and meet 2020 head-on. Bring it!

Cover Up the Cold

It’s cold and flu season once again, and for most of us that means finding ways to hide the fact we’re feeling rough. We all know that winter is the time of year that we’re more susceptible to getting ill, but why?

Contrary to what your grandma may have told you, colds and flu aren’t caused by going out without your winter coat. The three main causes are:

  1. Spending more time indoors.

With windows closed, poor ventilation and other people in close proximity who may be carrying the virus.

  1. A weak immune system.

We all know some people who have the worst luck when it comes to catching every bug and germ that’s circulating – thank the immune system.

  1. Stress and lack of sleep.

Believe it or not, stress and lack of sleep aren’t just bad for your mental wellbeing, they take their toll on your body too and can impact your immune system.

So, we know what factors can make you more likely to get a cold, but what about dealing with the symptoms once you have one? We can’t help you to get better, but we can help you to look better than you feel, and that’s half the battle.

Beauty tools to hide a cold.

Just because you feel like you’ve been hit by a bus doesn’t mean you need to look that way. Whether you’ve got an important business meeting or a big date, life doesn’t stop for a cold. Here are our top beauty tools for masking a cold:

Dry Flaky Skin

Even without a cold, winter plays havoc with our skin. While a good moisturising routine is essential, all products are not created equal. DS Emulsion by Uriage Eau Thermale was created to not only moisturise but to target the microorganisms that create flaky skin and irritation.

Chapped Nose

It’s not glamorous, but it’s a standard sign that you’re suffering from a cold. No matter how kitten-belly soft those tissues are, getting a chapped nose is a likelihood.

Try to keep the area free of foundations and concealers as they’ll only cling to flakes and make your nose appear 10x worse. Instead, apply a thin layer of a heavy-duty balm like the Tree of Life Barm from Elemental Herbology

Cracked Lips

Dry, cracked lips are usually caused by a combination of dehydration and your immune system being down. To combat dehydration, keep a bottle of water handy and sip at it throughout the day. For pout restoration, opt for a lip balm that nourishes your lips – this Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm Duo comes highly recommended.

Dull Complexion

When you’re feeling a bit ‘blah’, giving yourself an at-home facial is a fantastic way to brighten up your day, and your skin. Infused with Vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids, the Seoulista Beauty Brightening Instant Facial evens your skin tone and soothes the skin.

Stubborn Red Patches

If your immune system is struggling, you’ll often find that your skin is more susceptible to inflammation and sensitivity. Nip it in the bud by nourishing and protecting your problem areas with a thick barrier cream. We’ve previously mentioned Dr Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm because it works so well for soothing chapped skin – it’s one that’s well worth having in your makeup kit

Tired Eyes

Sunken dark circles? Puffy red bags? Your eyes give so much away about how you’re feeling inside, so they’re a key area to address if you want to hide a cold. Thisworks Light Time Open Eyes cream contains a blend of natural ingredients such as soothing aloe vera and rich argan oil, working together to revive the appearance of tired eyes.

Puffy Face

Not only have you woken up with a horrific cold, but your face has ballooned overnight! Help is at hand if you have a cooling gel at hand, such as the Cucumber De-Tox Bouncy Hydrating Gel from Peter Thomas Roth. Store it in the refrigerator for ultimate soothing power.

Although many of us would prefer to snuggle down under the covers at the first sign of a cold, that isn’t usually an option. When life has to carry on, these tips can help.

Feel better soon!

Secret Santa Saviours

Deck the halls, ring the bells, Christmas is coming!

It really is the “most wonderful time of the year” until, that is, you open your email to find out that the office is doing a Secret Santa

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m no grinch, but those two words fill me with dread and I know I’m not the only one…

#1 First of all, there’s nothing secret about it, by the time the torn wrapping paper has been bundled into the bin, everyone knows who got whom what.

#2 Second, you never get the person you actually know well and want to buy a gift for. You’re inevitably paired with Simon from Accounts or Angry Helen from HR; or worse still, someone in management.

#3 Finally, the pressure to get a thoughtful, inexpensive gift without inversely overthinking it or spending too little, is an extra burden that no one needs this close to Christmas.

Yet, this year, thousands of people around the country will be faced with this exact predicament. Well allbeauty readers, we’re here for you. To take the stress out of Secret Santa shopping we’ve got an easy-to-use solution that’s right at your fingertips.

The allbeauty “Secret Santa Saviour Selector”

Too much? The name may be a work in progress, but this is a tool that will change your life for the better when it comes to shopping for those hard-to-buy-for colleagues, friends or family.

Our search function not only allows you to filter products by category but by gender and budget too. So, whether it’s a £10 bath oil for Aunt Pam or a £15 organic skin cream for your vegan boss, we’ve got you covered.

The 5 Types of Secret Santa Recipient (and What to Get Them)

We know that finding the perfect gift involves knowing where to start. So, to make your Christmas shopping as stress-free as possible, the allbeauty team have got together to highlight the best categories for some of the most common Secret Santa recipients.

1. THE HARD TO PLEASE

Let’s face it, statistics aside, this is the person you’re most likely to draw out of the hat. That one person in the office who can’t be pleased, who complains about the AC temperature year-round and who won’t hide their feelings when they pull back the wrapping.

For the Office Snob, we suggest going for a few small items instead of one big one. This will spread the chances of getting something they’re happy with without you being out of pocket. Miniature perfume or makeup selection boxes are a great option. Browse now.

2. THE JOKER

A great person to be paired with, the office Joker loves to have a laugh and appreciated a good prop. Think of the least likely thing that The Joker needs, and get that.

Why not go for hair spray for the Bald Joker, lip plumping gloss for the Casual Joker, or a calming candle for the Bouncing Off The Walls Joker. Get creative! Browse now.

3. THE QUIET ONE

If you’ve been paired with someone you know nothing about, go for a safe gift that can’t possibly be misinterpreted. That isn’t to say you need to be boring though. Hand creams and scented soaps may be tried and true gifts, but why not opt for something a little more thoughtful?

Home fragrances are a wonderful gift to receive and as well as being practical and long-lasting. Browse now.

4. THE MAT LEAVE RETURNER

It can be awkward being paired with someone who has recently returned from maternity leave – they’ve served their time in the office, but you might never have worked alongside them before or know their interests.

The perfect gift for a new mum? Sleep. If you can’t offer your services as a night nurse, get the next best thing: our range of Wellbeing Products for Sleep make an ideal gift for new mothers. Browse now.

5. THE ANNUAL LEAVE AFICIONADO

We’ve all got that one colleague who seems to be on holiday as regularly as they’re in the office. How they manage to make their annual leave go so far is anyone’s guess, but one thing we do know is what to get them for Christmas.

There are an amazing variety of travel-size products available at allbeauty, all of which will be a welcome addition on your colleague’s next adventure. Browse now.

Congratulations! You’ve got everything you need to wow the office with your Secret Santa contribution. So, what are you waiting for? Get shopping!
