The Festive Season Glow

The festive season is fast approaching, and in fact, many Christmas parties are already in full swing so if you haven’t yet turned your attention to your tanning, now is your chance. We’ve called on tanning experts Bellamianta to share their professional tips for party perfect skin, in just 4 steps.

P.S You can get and additional 10% off all our Sun and Tan shop (no minimum spend!) Use Code: TANME until Midnight Friday 25/10/19! ✨

There’s no doubt about it; the perfect party season accessory is always a gorgeous, golden glow. Christmas is all about sparkle, shimmer and shine so it’s time to up the ante when it comes to a skin-loving glow. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’ve got a couple of low-key events in the diary or it’s packed full of glitz and glam extravaganzas, ensure your tan is always on point with these simple, skin perfecting tips. ‘Tis the season to glow, after all.

Step 1: Prep is Key

While it can be easy to reach for your tan straight away, the key to a flawless finish is all about that base. To ensure your skin is in prime condition for tanning, exfoliate using a gentle scrub (such as our Triple Action Glycolic Body Scrub) and mitt thoroughly, 24-hours prior to tanning. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the skin’s outermost layer to help ensure even coverage on application. After exfoliating, moisturise your skin.

Step 2: Apply your tan

If you can, shower 30-minutes before application. This will enable your skin to return to its natural PH balance and allow time for your pores to close. Do not apply body lotion or deodorant before tanning. Make sure your underarms are deodorant free and avoid using any oil based products, as they can leave traces on the skin that can cause streaking.

For a long-lasting glow, our Rapid Self-Tanning Tinted Mousse is a winner, for good reason. The beauty of this tan, is that you are in control of its colour. Simply leave on for 2-hours for a light tan, wash off after 3-hours for a medium glow or for the darkest results, leave on for 6 or more hours. The mousse formula is super easy to use (even for tanning newbies), gliding over the skin and blending perfectly for a fabulous finish.

Step 3: Elevate your look

The Christmas party season definitely calls for next level tanning. Our Flawless Filter Body Make-Up is perfect for those festive nights out. A wash-off body and face makeup, it effortlessly blurs imperfections, while the special tinted formula is designed to bronze and gloss your skin instantly. It gives a HD finish that lasts all day long and looks so flawless that #nofilter is required on those festive photos.

A firm favourite with beauty bloggers and make-up artists, our Skin Perfecting Illuminating Bronzing Powder is unlike anything you have tried before. Just at the name suggests, this Bronzing Power works to perfect your skin while illuminating it for a glow that keeps on giving. The golden bronzing power cleverly reflects light, while offering subtle coverage, to give your skin a gorgeous, natural golden glow. Lightweight, ultra-fine pigments enhance the skin’s natural undertones for a truly unique skin perfecting finish. Plus, it’s suitable for use on both the face and body, making this one of the most versatile beauty products you could ever own!

Step 4: Keep the glow alive

Now that you’ve tanned you’ll want to keep the glow alive. Using our Self Tanning Gradual Moisturiser will not only keep your skin super hydrated, but it will deepen your tan and extend its duration too so when those last-minute Christmas catch-ups with friends roll around, you’ll definitely be ready. Plus, like all our Bellamianta products, it is packed full of skin-loving, organic ingredients, keeping it super soft and in tip-top condition.

This festive season, enjoy the greatest gift of all – a gorgeous, golden glow.

Ingredient of the Month: Squalane Oil

In this month’s edition of Ingredient of the Month, we’re taking a look at one of the lesser-known plant-derived ingredients in beauty, Squalane Oil. If you’ve not heard of this unique skincare powerhouse before, read on to get a brief explanation of what it is, how it works, and who it’s for.

What is Squalane Oil?

Our bodies naturally produce a compound called squalene in the sebaceous glands. Squalene enhances the integrity of cells and reduces moisture loss, as well as being believed to have a host of potential medical benefits. Unfortunately, as we get older, the level of squalene produced by the body decreases, which is where squalane oil comes in.

The hydrogenated version of squalene, squalane oil has all the same benefits and can be applied directly to the skin. Because our bodies understand its chemical composition, it is absorbed and used easily, without irritation.

The oil itself is silky and glides on like as you’d expect from an oil, but absorbs quickly, leaving no greasy residue. Lightweight and incredibly hydrating, it can be used as part of your morning or evening moisturising routine.

Squalane oil can also be used on the face, body and hair.

Where Does it Come From?

Squalane oil has been used in eastern medicine for centuries. Originally harvested from the liver of sharks, today’s squalane oil comes from much more ethical sources.

Rice bran, amaranth seed, wheat germ, olives and sugarcane can all be used to produce a renewable, sustainable source of squalane oil. Thanks, science!

Who Can Benefit From Squalane Oil?

Squalane oil is one of those rare products that can genuinely benefit all skin types. It isn’t often that a skincare product is equally as well suited to sensitive dry skin as it is to acne-prone skin, yet squalane oil can claim both.

Dry and Dehydrated Skin

If you suffer from tight, scaly, dry skin which turns red if you so much as look at it the wrong way, squalane oil is a fantastic tool to have in your arsenal.

As well as increasing hydration and retaining the skin’s moisture, squalene oil is very lightweight. If you’re tired of heavy, greasy emollients, you might be surprised at how a few drops of this silky oil compares.

Oily and Acne-Prone Skin

Gone are the days when oil was considered a no-no for acne-prone skin. Many of the products used to dry out acne are astringents, which strip the skin of its naturally beneficial oils. Your skin then goes into overdrive to replenish the oils, and so the cycle continues.

Squalane oil not only anti-inflammatory but is non-comedogenic and hydrates the skin without creating a skin barrier. This allows the skin to breathe, reducing the risk of blocked pores and breakouts.

Combination Skin

In the endless battle to suit the needs of both oily and dry areas of skin, many of our allbeauty readers find that they have to prioritise one complaint over another.

The use of squalane oil helps to regulate excess oil production while still hydrating skin at a cellular level. Unlike many other moisturisers, squalane oil is able to promote hydration without creating an external skin barrier. This avoids the risk of blocking pores in oilier zones, making it ideal for combination skin.

Ageing and Sun-Damaged Skin

Whether due to age or environmental factors, most of us will eventually experience fine lines and wrinkles. While it may not be able to turn back the hands of time, squalane oil can certainly improve the skin’s appearance.

Skin cell hydration is one of the key ways that squalane oil helps ageing or sun-damaged skin, as plump skin show lines less readily. Containing antioxidants, the skin is also protected against free radicals and oxidisation – both of which speed of the ageing process.

If you’re interested in trying squalane oil for yourself, why not give Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil or Indeed Laboratories Squalane Facial Oil a try? Or shop our hand picked products here

Kérastase Scalp Scrub

If you haven’t introduced scalp scrubs into your haircare routine yet, what are you waiting for? In the same way that your skin needs regular exfoliation to clear away the bad stuff, your scalp needs it too. A scalp scrub is an essential treatment that your scalp and strands will love.

What’s a hair scrub?

When it comes to your skincare routine, you may know exactly what your skin is calling out for, such as a helpful dose of hydration, a good cleanse, or deep exfoliation. The same needs apply to your scalp, after all, under all that hair, there’s skin there that needs attention too.

A scalp scrub is a perfect way to ensure that your scalp is looked after. It’s designed to clear away styling products, pollution, dead cells and other impurities that have the tendency to collect on your scalp. Remember: you can’t grow beautiful hair if you don’t create the right conditions for it to thrive. That’s why starting with the scalp is so important.

What’s the best hair scrub for me?

Normal to Oily

Enriched with gentle exfoliants like sea salt minerals the Kérastase Fusio-Scrub Energisant is designed to care for normal to oily scalp conditions to help exfoliate the deeply-ingrained impurities found within the hair and scalp. Made with Salicylic acid and Vitamin B5, the formula improves skin comfort whilst helping to nourish your locks and prevent dryness. It helps to instantly reinject up to 72% more volume & up to 6x more shine after one application.

Normal to Sensitive

For those with normal to sensitive scalps, try Kérastase Fusio-Scrub  Apaisant, enriched with Jojoba Seeds and Sweet Orange Peel to gently cleanse your scalp to remove dead cells and dirt particles, therefore, helping improve skin comfort and prevent dryness.

How do I incorporate a scalp scrub into my haircare routine?

The key here is moderation. Just as you shouldn’t be deeply exfoliating your face every day, the same rule applies to your scalp. Too much exfoliation can leave the skin sensitive, and clear away the essential oils your hair needs to thrive. It’s therefore recommended that you incorporate a scalp scrub once/twice a week into your current haircare routine. Replace your routine shampoo and apply your Kérastase Fusio-Scrub to wet hair, emulsify into the scalp and hair to gently remove all impurities from your scalp and hair. Then let it work its magic, proceed as normal to conditioning. Your hair will have had an ultimate deep cleanse for boosted volume and shine. It’s as easy as that.

Reinject volume back into your hair while gently exfoliating your locks, all with a scalp scrub designed for your specific haircare needs- try it today! Shop all Kérastase Now:

INTRODUCING BOSS THE SCENT ABSOLUTE

MAGNETIC. DARING. SENSORIAL. UNEXPECTED.

Push the senses to the next level with BOSS THE SCENT Absolute: two new, intensely seductive
fragrances For Him and For Her, darker, richer interpretations of the original scents. The story
of #AugmentedSensuality continues as BOSS Parfums introduces the next phase of the sensorial
journey.

A LEGACY OF SEDUCTION

The 2018 campaign of BOSS Parfums illustrated the transcendental power of BOSS THE SCENT
in the digital age. Surpassing borders and igniting our deepest desire to disconnect from our
online lives and connect once again in the real world. In this new chapter of the
#AugmentedSensuality journey, “The Passion”, our duo push their relationship one step further
by challenging their senses to go deeper and live an absolute night.

THE SENSES AT NIGHT

In this fast-paced world full of distractions, we seek stronger connections. Memorable. Lasting.
Sensorial. As night falls, it brings more daring, unexpected ways for us to fully explore our
senses. Heightened by the intrigue of dusk, the next chapter of #AugmentedSensuality unfolds.
Under the cloak of darkness, they experiment with new, stimulating sensations, reaching a new
level together.

NEXT LEVEL SENSATIONS

Reprising their roles, Jamie Dornan and Birgit Kos come together again as the BOSS man and
woman.  Tonight is the night to discover and explore. To challenge each other, experimenting
with new sensations to feel something new. Together.  More intimate, magnetic and seductive. Pushing all their senses to the excess for a night of absoluteness, they play with light and music, whispering to each other, the sound of
ice crackling, sending a shooting tingling up their spines. With a caress of the hand and a stroke
of the hair, the thrill of each other’s presence becomes electric. The warmth of the other, the
anticipation of getting closer, magnified by the sound of their voices and the smell of each
other’s scents.

BOSS THE SCENT ABSOLUTE: FOR HIM AND FOR HER

Crafted by perfumer Bruno Jovanovic, BOSS THE SCENT Absolute For Him opens with a spicy
Ginger freshness that meets with the aphrodisiac heart notes of Mondia root and Maninka fruit,
while a deeply masculine and ruggedly coarse Vetiver shines at the base. The most sensual
expedition for BOSS THE SCENT so far, the dark amber juice is housed within a dark taupe flacon
and finished with a dark metallic cap.

Crafted by perfumer Louise Turner, BOSS THE SCENT Absolute For Her opens with a creamy
Honeyed Peach note, which cuts through the warming heart of roasted Coffee. In the base, a
smooth and feminine Vanilla envelops the more masculine Vetiver to create a magnetic
addiction. More mysterious and darker than its original counterpoint, this rich and intense
interpretation offers a level of absoluteness. An extreme. The scent is presented in a glass
flacon featuring a dark plum gradient and finished with a dark bronze cap.

allbeauty & The Little Princess Trust

This Autumn, one special member of our allbeauty team has made an inspirational change by donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust. We have had the pleasure to travel with Maggie through her journey and ask all the questions before she takes the chop.

1inch? 2inch? 3inch? Read More…

#1 Tell us a little bit about yourself, what do you do at allbeauty?

My name’s Maggie, I started at allbeauty in 2016 as a Christmas temp in Customer Services, then moved up to Stock Management after nearly a year where I edit product images.

#2 You’re chopping off your hair and donating it, that’s amazing! Could you share insight on why you are doing this?

It’s a bit of a weird reason as my inspiration was bald before the cancer! My Papa was diagnosed with cancer several years ago and he was always so strong, he didn’t complain once and was always so kind and patient even when you could see him in the worst pain. It got me thinking about how I would handle being in his situation and in all honesty, the thought of losing my hair would be terrifying. Thinking about what he went through happening to a child, and on top of that losing their hair is heartbreaking and I just wanted to help.

#3 How long have you been growing your hair?

About a year and a half!

#4 What products have you been using?

I use a mask about once a week (sometimes every other week if I’m feeling lazy), I love the TIGI Bed Head Urban Antidotes Resurrection Treatment Mask. I have naturally slightly dry hair and it feels so silky after using this. Every day I use the Macadamia Natural Oil  Healing Oil Treatment, and sometimes if I know I’m washing my hair the next day I’ll slather on a load before bed.

#5 Do you know how much hair you are donating?

The minimum donation is 7 inches and I should be donating around 10 inches. I would love to grow it again after this and donate even more!

#6 What happens when you donate?

Donated hair is sent to a special factory it’s hand knotted into a wig base, and a single wig can contain up to 10 different donations. The hair is never coloured or treated, so it is always a high quality finish and they are able to offer a range of different natural colours and lengths so suit every individual. A family can then request a wig and can visit an approved salon to choose a wig and have it styled.

#7 How do you feel about donating your hair?

I’m excited to be helping someone out there feel a bit better during such a difficult period in their lives, but at the same time it’s so sad that any one has to go through this in the first place. Cutting the hair off itself is the easy bit, I’m totally fine with that!

#8 What hairstyle are you going for next and where will you be getting it cut?

The ultimate trim! Nothing fancy, just chopping it off around the shoulder so that I can grow it again without having to wait for layers to grow out or anything. The allbeauty salon in Guernsey, the staff there are so and I trust them fully with my locks!

#9 What the first thing you are going to do with your new hair style?

Try and learn how to style short hair!

#10 What’s your advice for someone that is thinking about getting their haircut and donating it?

Just do it, it will grow back!

With a vast range of perfumes available at allbeauty, it’s safe to say that your signature scent is only a few clicks away. So, what will you be wearing this Autumn?

An hour a day just for you

As the days get shorter and the nights longer, it will soon be time to set our clocks back an hour. A tradition dating back to 1916 in the UK, resetting the time allowed farmers to get a headstart on the day, making the most of the limited daylight hours. But it isn’t only farmers who should get to reap the benefits of that extra hour, you can too.

At allbeauty we believe in the importance of “me time”, those all too often infrequent moments when we prioritise our own mental wellbeing over the humdrum of daily life.

This Autumn, we challenge you to make the most of gaining an hour by adding self-care to your daily routine. One hour a day, just for you.

It may sound like a pipe-dream, but taking an hour a day to show yourself some love is a habit that simply takes commitment on your part. It may be going to bed an hour early to enjoy a morning lie-in, or an early start to allow you to begin the day with a face mask and pedicure. Small changes can make a big difference to the quality of your daily life.

Need inspiration? Here are some of the allbeauty team’s top suggestions for how to spend your power-hour:

Sleep

It may not be the most indulgent or glamorous option on our list, but sleep tops the charts for one of the most beneficial ways to spend an extra hour. Whether it means preparing your lunch and outfit the evening before, or hitting the hay earlier, getting an additional hour of sleep will leave you feeling rested, refreshed, and ready to face the day.

Encourage the sandman with these sleep-inducing secret weapons.

Smile Makers

Ooh-er! Taking some time for self-discovery between the sheets is a fantastic way to prioritise your wellbeing. An orgasm releases oxytocin and dopamine, so you’ll not only be feeling great physically but will also reduce stress, relieve pain and boost your confidence. What better way to start the day?! Evening me-time comes with the added bonus of getting a better night’s sleep too! Win/win!

Pelvic Floor Trainer

It may not seem like the most thrilling way to indulge in self-care (especially after the previous suggestion), but taking time out of your day to do pelvic floor exercises is an investment in your future self. An estimated 3-6 million people in the UK experience urinary incontinence, minimise your risk with targeted pelvic floor training.

Candle and a Bath

The ultimate in relaxation, a steaming bath paired with a fragrant candle is an ideal way to end the day. Let the heat of the tub soothe your muscles and soften your skin, while an aromatic candle indulges your senses and promotes relaxation. Perfection!

.

Face Mask

We lead busy lives and our skin bears the brunt of that. Sensitivity, dehydration, sun-damage and exposure to pollution are all common factors that lead to lack lustre skin. With a range of face masks designed to target the full spectrum of dermatological complaints, treat yourself at least once a week, preferably in the company of a good book.

Foot mask / Pedicure

Feet are one of the most hardworking parts of our body but are rarely shown the care they deserve, particularly once the sandals have been packed away for the year. Show your tootsies some love with a weekly pedicure and foot mask available at allbeauty

Hair Treatments

As the clocks go back and Autumn arrives, our hair has a season of woolly hats, rain and wind to contend with. Treat your locks to regular moisturising hair masks to condition and strengthen your strands from root to tip.

Teeth Whitening

With the cooler weather, we all reach for a comforting tea or coffee a little more often. Don’t let your teeth suffer for it. With the iWhite Instant Teeth Whitening Kit, you can have a whiter, brighter smile in just 20 minutes a day. The question is, what will you do with your other 40 minutes of me-time?!

With such a wide range of ideas for prioritising your wellbeing, be sure to put the October 27th in your diary as the day your new self-care routine begins – you deserve it.

Ingredient of the Month – Hyaluronic Acid

There are a lot of things to appreciate about Autumn – back to school vibes, pumpkins, the return of great TV dramas and cosy nights in, to name just a few.

With Fashion Week approaching, there’s also the new season saga of what to wear. Love it or loathe it, when Autumn hits, it’s time to start considering some extra layers – and at allbeautyhq, we’re not just talking clothing. September is a key month to adapt your skincare routine, ensuring that you dedicate additional nourishment and care.

What’s in your face?

Step into our Autumn skincare ingredient of the month – Hyaluronic Acid. Hya-what, we hear you cry? Upon first impression, Hyaluronic Acid does sound a bit extreme, but don’t worry – we’re here to demystify this skincare saviour and highlight some top tips on its properties.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is actually a sugar molecule (a polysaccharide, if we’re feeling fancy) which occurs naturally in your skin. An antioxidant; it supports up to 1000 times its weight in water and by doing so, helps to support collagen structures, keeping skin supple and tissues lubricated.

If it’s already part of my skin, why should I consider using this ingredient now?

Our natural production of Hyaluronic Acid actually diminishes as we age, which is why it is recommended to start incorporating hyaluronics into your routine to rebalance levels after the age of 25.

As mentioned above, Autumnal temperatures can be unpredictable, and using a hyaluronic acid can also help to protect your skin from dehydration due to extreme temperature changes. That’s right – the combination of cold air outside and having the central heating on inside may leave you feeling snug, but it can also have a drying effect on your skin.

In addition to adding much needed hydration, Hyaluronic acid also has an anti-bacterial effect, making it ideal for those dealing with broken skin, redness or inflammation. Being an antioxidant, it can also help to limit the damage of air pollution or sunlight.

So, what should I look for on the label?

  1. Hyaluronic acid is commonly listed as follows: Hyaluronic acid, hydrolysed hyaluronic acid, sodium acetyl hyaluronate or sodium hyaluronate.
  2. Sodium hyaluronate is, as the name suggests, a salt derivative of the molecule and is smaller in size, allowing for better skin penetration.
  3. You should look for a product which contains an ingredient percentage between 0.25-2.5% to allow for optimum penetration of your skin cells.
