Top 8 Most Wished For Women’s Christmas Fragrance:
This week on allbeauty.com we’re talking favourite retro scents. We asked the allbeautyHQ team to tell us theirs and the stories behind them….
Claire – Head of Social Media
“My Mother was a beauty consultant for Chanel, I wore bottles of Chanel No. 19 to school as a teenager – I was very spoilt!! I also had the gorgeous Chanel After Bath Powder that went with it. It came in a huge container and lasted months.”
Peter – Lead Creative
“Back in ‘82 I recall getting ready for a first date. I spotted Dad’s aftershave (Drakkar Noir) in the bathroom cabinet and decided to borrow it. Problem was, I splashed it everywhere then couldn’t wash off the scent! The smell was all over me – very embarrassing!”
Fi – Head of Brand
“Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche really takes me back to my childhood. It was a permanent fixture on my Mum’s dressing table, in those glamorous times of big hair & shoulder pads!”
Ryan – Digital Designer
“I wore Lacoste Pour Homme every day in my first year at Uni (2002/3) – I think someone gave it to me as a going away gift. It brings back great memories whenever I walk by someone wearing it (not all of them ones I can share!)”
Tell us your favourite retro scents and why you love them – you can tweet us @allbeautynews or leave us a comment below.
Searching for the best gift for Dad, what really matters is getting it right. When you want something luxurious yet different, and if the budget will stretch, the choice is easy: Tom Ford fragrance.
High class fragrance is quite easy to find (think timeless classics such as Dior, Chanel and Boss). But something really special? Something between High Street and Bespoke? Enter Tom Ford, the American designer and film director, who started his career at Chloe before turning around the fortunes of Gucci.
Who Is The Average User? Tom Ford aftershaves and colognes are for every man, they’re perfect for Dads of any age. Fragrance Notes? Traditional ingredients such as sage, vetiver and oak moss combine with neroli, sandalwood and jasmine. These are classic male scents with a modern edge. Packaging? Tom Ford scents have distinctive packaging that say quality on first sight. Glass and metal are the key elements here.
Our Top 3 Tom Ford fragrance products for Father’s Day
Tom Ford Oud Wood is part of the Private Blend range. A wonderful blend of smoky incense, sandalwood and vetiver. We won’t pretend it’s a budget buy (expect to pay around £100 for a 30ml size) but it’s well worth considering if you can stretch to that extra treat.
Private Blend is my own scent laboratory: it’s where I have the ability to create very special, original fragrances that are unconstrained by the conventions of mainstream scent-making. Private Blend is designed with the true fragrance connoisseur in mind. – Tom Ford
Tom Ford, Private Blend Neroli Portofino (Shower Gel 250ml) – when you’d prefer to give a bath and body product, go for ultimate luxury! Private Blend Neroli Portofino is a best selling, high end fragrance by Tom Ford. This gentle cleansing gel is fragranced with the same scent but at a fraction of the cost. A very modern scent, Neroli Portofino combines citrus oils and floral notes with Amber undertones to awaken the senses.
Tom Ford, Noir (Eau de Parfum 50ml) is an update on the original fragrance released in 2012. The oriental and spicy notes of the 2012 original have been refreshed with a mix of new elements. These include spearmint, Italian lemon and pure citrus oils. This gives the composition a cooling freshness that’s ideal for warmer months and dials down the oriental top notes. Underneath is a base of traditional wood and musk.
All Tom Ford fragrance products have accompanying bath and body products, including soap, deodorant and body lotion, so well worth checking if you’re on a budget.

Hard to believe that Jimmy Choo launched their first fragrance as recently as 2011! Here’s the allbeauty guide to the world of Jimmy Choo perfume and aftershave.
🎄 CHRISTMAS UPDATE: Looking to gift Jimmy Choo perfume or aftershave? Scroll to the end of this post, for tips on which fragrance to choose.
The iconic fragrance, Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum, was an overnight success in 2011 and lead to the creation of Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette the following year. In a bottle designed by Jimmy Choo Co-Founder Tamara Mellon, inspired by her love of Murano glass, the idea was to create something that looks perfectly in place on a bedside table.
Fronted by Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, Jimmy Choo Man is a surprisingly woody scent with top notes of lavender and mandarin mixed with honeydew melon, pink pepper, geranium and pineapple leaf. Finally the fragrance leaves a lasting scent of patchouli, suede and ambery wood. Since its debut the scent has won numerous awards and is available with complementary products including deodorant and aftershave balm.
Jimmy Choo Man Intense
Released in 2016, and favourably compared with Bleu de Chanel, Intense is a great day to night fragrance. With top notes of mandarin orange, melon and lavender, middle notes of geranium, black pepper and Artemisia and base notes of patchouli, tonka bean and lavender.
Jimmy Choo Man Ice – The Latest Creation
In 2017 Jimmy Choo announced new Man Ice, a woody aromatic with notes of mandarin, cedar and moss. Already a winner in the Men’s Health Grooming Awards 2017 who called it “light enough to wear year-round but complex enough to keep people guessing. Perfect for date night”.
Famous Jimmy Choo Fans – these celebs wore Jimmy Choo at defining moments of their careers:
2002 Halle Berry accepting her Oscar
2006 Keira Knightley at the Golden Globes
2009 Michelle Obama at the presidential inauguration
2009 Sandra Bullock accepting her Oscar
2009 Rihanna winning a Grammy
2011 Natalie Portman accepting her Oscar
2012 Meryl Streep accepting her BAFTA
2013 Beyoncé winning a Grammy
EDP & EDT – There is a difference! One thing that often catches people out is the difference between Jimmy Choo EDP and EDT. They are quite different scents, when generally the only difference between an Eau de Parfum and an Eau de Toilette is the strength. Most people are strongly one or the other! Here’s the difference:
Jimmy Choo EDP is a fruity scent with notes of tiger orchid, sweet toffee caramel and Indonesian patchouli.
EDT on the other hand contains exotic tiger orchid blended with tea rose on a woody base. Unlike the debut it does not contain patchouli, instead it contains cedar.
Did You Know? Jimmy Choo Creative Director Sandra Choi created a slipper especially for the launch of Disney’s live action Cinderella. Who better to create the most iconic shoe in the world?
The latest women’s offering from this design powerhouse is Jimmy Choo Blossom, which was released in 2015 alongside Jimmy Choo Illicit. Blossom is a glorious mix of red berries and citrus cocktail with a heart of sweet pea and rose and complemented by a base of white musk and sandalwood. Illicit on the other hand is a fiery mix of bitter orange and ginger over a base of warm amber.
Gift Buying: Both Jimmy Choo Flash and Jimmy Choo Illicit are aimed at a younger, party loving, confident female and are great for those in their teens to early 30s. The iconic Jimmy Choo EDP and EDT are suitable for all ages – choose the Eau de Toilette if in doubt as it’s a little lighter and doesn’t contain patchouli which can divide opinion. Blossom is also suitable for any age but targeted at more sophisticated party goers who love cocktails and dancing with the girls. Jimmy Choo Man is for the refined, urban gent with a rebellious spirit and will appeal to those who don’t enjoy heavy, spicy scents. Jimmy Choo Man Ice, the latest fragrance, is a lighter-weight scent that’s ideal for the office and will appeal to most men.
allbeautyHQ Fans: Both Jimmy Choo EDT and EDP are immensely popular here at allbeautyHQ (it’s probably our go-to scent!) In fact, allbeautyHQ CRM Manager Trinny chose Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette as her Spring 2017 wedding scent. Trinny told us it’s her all-time favourite perfume: glamorous and feminine and perfect for her special day.
Jimmy Choo continue to excite us with new launches each year – we can’t wait to discover their next move!
The allbeauty quick guide to Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances for men and women.
Jean Paul Gaultier, the iconic designer and enfant terrible of fashion, is responsible for one of the most successful designer-fragrance crossovers to date. His first fragrance, Classique, launched in 1993 (originally titled Jean Paul Gaultier Eau de Parfum) and was made for women. Described as an “elegant, oriental, floral fragrance” with top notes of anise, orange blossom and tangerine, naturally it was an instant hit.
The huge success of Classique was followed by Le Mâle, the fragrance for men, in 1995, which was loved both for its scent as well as its ‘tin can’ outer packaging. Both fragrances continue to hit the topseller mark, notably at Christmas and on Valentine’s Day.
Gaultier continued to produce fragrances on a regular basis and in 2005 the unisex “fragrance for humanity” Gaultier²(pronounced Gaultier to the power of two) was launched, a beautiful mixture of vanilla, amber and musk, blended through a smoke screen of incense and myrhh.
2017 saw a flurry of excitement with the release of Scandal, a deliciously naughty scent that mixes elegance with the scandal of Pigalle! With notes of honey, blood orange and patchouli, Scandal is set to be our new favourite.
allbeauty stocks a wide range of fragrances for men and women by Jean Paul Gaultier, all at fantastic prices with worldwide delivery.
