Homeschooling SOS – Tips & Tricks To Best Support Your Bubble

It’s Lockdown 3.0, which means many of us are facing the juggle of WFH (working from home) while overseeing the younger members of our household. If you’ve found yourself asking how you’re going to get through the next half term of homeschooling, we’re here to offer some tips to make it a little easier during these incredibly trying times.

Homeschooling is a choice that many parents plan and prepare for over a long period of time and in their own time. It’s ok to not feel 100% confident about your makeshift Home School – everyone is in a similar boat, with many experiencing distance learning for the first time! Covid19 has a lot to answer for…

Above all, remember that children are constantly learning, whether they’re running around outside, constructing worlds on Minecraft, or playing with toys. Loving your kids, supporting them and making them feel safe is enough.

Tip #1. Start The Day Energised

One of the most important things you can do when it comes to juggling work and family is to make sure you have enough energy to face the day. If you find yourself waking up tired, you’re already off to a bad start.

As tempting as it can be to have a late night and enjoy some much-needed childfree time, you’re going to pay for it the following day. Instead, hit the hay early and give yourself the best chance of rest by using this works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray which is shown to help 97% of users sleep better. Another fab option is L’Occitane Aromachologie Cocon De Sérenité Relaxing Pillow Mist which combines lavender, geranium and sweet orange essential oils.

And let’s face it, there are going to be days where for all the will in the world, we just don’t get a good night’s sleep. For those late nights and early mornings when you feel like death warmed up, a good concealer will at least smooth away those dark circles. The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer is our go-to for this job, as it diffuses light, reduces the appearance of lines and is life-resistant.

Tip #2. Nip Stress In The Bud

When it comes to keeping the wheels turning, you’re the most crucial factor. Things would crumble without you, so make sure you’re prioritising your well-being and not letting stress bottle up.

Fragrances have been used for centuries to promote relaxation, with lavender, neroli, rosemary and patchouli being some of the most popular. Calming scents can help you deal with stress and reduce the risk of burning out, so add them into your daily routine wherever possible.

For example, one of our favourite stress-relievers is the Payot Paris Eau de Soin Relaxante: Floral Treatment Water. Spritzed on your face throughout the day, the hyaluronic acid gives your skin a dose of hydration while jasmine and white tea extracts relax and comfort.

And seeing as we’re spending a lot of time within our four walls, why not make sure your home fragrance is contributing to a sense of calm too?

Neom Organics London has a Scent To De-Stress range that is perfect for keeping you (and the children) feeling zen throughout the day. We also love their Happiness Scented Candle, with notes of white neroli, mimosa and lemon to chase away the blues. So, fill your home with the smell of essential oils and hope it helps you find bliss amongst the chaos.

You may even want to get your soap in on the action, seeing as we’re all doing a lot more hand washing! Try Cowshed Relax Calming Hand & Body Soap with a lavender and eucalyptus blend to bring relaxation into even the dullest moments.

Tip #3. Break Up The Boredom

There’s a clever little phrase passed around between mums across the globe regarding fractious children, “just add water”. Something about adding H2O to the mix does wonders for grumpy, bored kids, and we don’t just mean keeping them hydrated (although this helps too). Whether it’s wet experiments at the kitchen table or splashing in the bath, children can perk up in an instant when water is involved.

A great idea for cold, miserable days, make bathtime a fun activity in its own right by adding bath bombs into the mix. We can’t recommend Bomb Cosmetics enough when it comes to skin-friendly bath products, and it’s worth having a few on hand for those days when you’re at your wit’s end. In particular, try Anything Is Popsicle for bright bombs and tropical scents that carry memories of summertime, or ocean inspired Part Time Mermaid which transports you to your favourite coastal holiday spot.

Alternatively, make the most of your sanctioned daily walk, blow the cobwebs away and let the kids burn off some energy – a little fresh air really does make everything feel better.

Tip #4. Rest And Recharge

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, keeping yourself in tip-top condition is essential during these trying times. Once the kids are tucked up safe in bed for the night, take some time for yourself and listen to any niggling aches and pains that your body is trying to tell you about.

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is praised for its natural mood-boosting and anti-anxiety properties, so now is a great time to add it into your routine. Take orally or apply topically to release some of that pent up muscle tension in your neck and shoulder muscles. Or, if you prefer to relax in the tub, we love Weleda Arnica Muscle Soak to help relieve those aching muscles.

If you’re not already, you may also want to give your immune system a boost with supplements. Sambucol Black Elderberry Immuno Forte Capsules is a great winter option, with zinc, vitamin C and black elderberry extract with natural antioxidant properties.

Finally, do something just for you. Your relaxation techniques do not have to be sophisticated! Whether it’s reading a book, indulging in a glass of vino or catching up on your favourite box set, remember to allow yourself some well-deserved downtime whilst you stay at home. You’ve earned it.

Let There Be Bathtime!

In our humble opinion, a bath is one of the easiest ways to escape and unwind after a long day. From relaxing oils & invigorating salts to soothing scents & fizzy bombs – the world can be your oyster when it comes to bathtime!

Take a deep breath and go in for the plunge with us as we give the lowdown on one of life’s simple pleasures.

A Short History Of Bathing

Bathing is maybe something we take for granted these days, but throughout the ages it’s been an activity with strong luxe and social associations. In the UK, the spa town of Bath was so named for its bathing heritage & Roman baths!

The first record of the buildings in Bath date back to 76 CE, but it is widely believed that the temple buildings had been standing for quite a few years prior. The buildings include baths and temple buildings dedicated to the Goddess Sulis Minevra. Sulis Minevra is a PARTICULARLY interesting Goddess because she represents a combination of Sulis, the ancient Celtic Goddess of healing waters, and Minervra, the Roman Deity and Goddess of Wisdom. Basically… the Romans created their own bathing Goddess and declared it wise to bathe! We couldn’t agree more.

Going back even further in time, it’s well documented that Cleopatra, allegedly, used to bathe in donkey milk, honey and rose petals daily for her complexion. Apparently soured milk was used primarily for the benefits of lactic acid. We’ll probably be steering clear of donkeys but can definitely get behind the idea of a milk bath. Our fave? The sumptuously almond scented L’Occitane Milky Bath!

Bathing Around The World

We may not be able to travel the world extensively at the moment, but it is still fascinating to explore the world of bathing!

The Hungarian capital of Budapest is known as the City of Baths! Its mineral rich thermal baths are naturally fed by over 100 hot springs, which are powered by Budapest’s position on top of a fault line. The most famous bathhouse is Széchenyi, an elegant and ornate structure which is a hotspot for tourists and locals alike.

Did you know allbeauty’s favourite Hungarian beauty brand? Inspired by the historical beauty of Budapest’s natural spas, the brand Omorovicza Of Budapest merges the power of thermal water with high tech-innovation and extensive scientific research.

Moving onto the Hammams of Turkey & Morocco! A Hammam is a steam bath, or public bathing place where visitors go through a series of rooms, starting with a cold temperature before moving to progressively hotter rooms. Soap, clay and vigorous rubbing are used, before being washed off in warm water.

Hammam at home with Moroccan Natural Organic – their clay treatments provide a nutrient rich base for masks (hair or body) and can also be used as shampoo. Argan Oil can also be used to hydrate and soothe the skin.

A Banya is a Russian bathhouse and sauna practice where your body undergoes a deep steam clean. The main premise is to sweat and detoxify out impurities. Birch tree branches (venik in Russian) are used to gently lash the skin. The leaves released from the oils help to relax the skin.

In need of relaxation? Dr Hauschka’s Birch Arnica Energising Body Oil can be applied after a workout or sauna time to revitalise the skin. It uses birch leaves in conjunction with Jojoba oil to soothe tired muscles. Apply to moist skin after showering.

An Onsen is the traditional Japanese name for a hot spring. All guests must shower first before entering the Onsen, so as not to dirty the thermal waters, which are considered to be pure and rich with minerals. Japan even has a Hot Springs Act which sets out criteria for Onsen.

Keen to discover more about Japanese minerals? Shu Uemura Art of Hair uses a large variety of Japanese ingredients in its haircare range – including rice extract, Onsen inspired ferment and the highly prized Red Camellia flower – tsubaki.

The allbeauty glossary of bathtime

So we’ve managed to cover a lot of bath facts and information in a short space of time! But what’s the difference between bath products? Which one should you use? We’re glad you asked!

Bubble Bath & Bombs

Foamy bubbles are probably what the majority of us associate with a relaxing bath!
Bubble Bath (or foaming) products consist of a liquid soap with a lathering agent which create bubbles.

Bath Bombs often take the form of a sphere (but can come in a variety of shapes) and effervesce or fizz when they come into contact with water. Invented by the founder of Lush Cosmetics and originally inspired by Alka-Seltzer tablets, they fizz as a result of the reaction between citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. Lathering agents are also added to create extra bubbles.
Allbeauty recommends : For a sensory experience, choose a Lavender or Verbena foaming bath from L’Occitane. An honourable mention also goes out to Philosophy, who created a bubble bath inspired by Margaritas… Now that’s what we call a Happy Hour!

Feeling a bit extra? Escape the daily grind and indulge in a touch of whimsy with bath bombs from Bomb Cosmetics – our go to for adding sparkle to bathtime!

Bath & Body Oils

Body Oils are liquids formulated with essential oils which have been extracted from plants or other botanicals. Often used in aromatherapy practices, it is suggested that oils can also be used to alter your mood – for example, lavender and bergamot are often used to relieve stress, chamomile for relaxation, peppermint to boost energy and rose to reduce anxiety.

Salts, Soaks & Scrubs

Bath salts are minerals which have been pulverised and made water soluble. When added to water, they can be used to help cleanse and purify the skin. Some salts have been developed that have similar properties to the minerals within natural baths or hot springs.

Body Scrubs can be used in the bath or shower and contain granules (salt or sugar) which gently tone and exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells.
Sometimes products containing bath salts are also referred to as Bath Soaks.

Looking for a soothing soak? Take a farflung trip of the senses with Elemis, who have Lime and Ginger Salt Glow and the Frangipani and Monoi Salt Glow in their Body Exotics range. We also love the idea of bathing in the mineral rich waters of the Mediterranean – and you can bring the Med to your bathroom with the Scottish Fine Soaps Mineral Bath Soak featuring sea kelp and Dead Sea Salt! Another great soak from Elemis (which is especially good for soothing tired muscles) is the Elemis Body Performance Aching Muscle Super Soak, which contains sea salt, thyme and juniper and comes highly recommended by Skincare Guru, Caroline Hirons.

Additional Relaxation Techniques

• Put on relaxing music
• Undertake a meditation
• Gather some essentials, whether that be a cup of tea, glass of wine, chocolates or a magazine and keep them close (just make sure they are not put on the lip of the bath!)
• Get glowing & light some candles!
• Upgrade your bubbles with some rose petals (or rose water, like our pal Cleo)!
• Face mask! Keep it simple with a sheet mask
• When you’re done soaking, hydrate with some water and enjoy some downtime! For an added life hack, make sure you’ve put your towel, dressing gown or pajamas on a heated radiator before you start bathing, so you are toasty straight from the tub when you decide to get out.

allbeauty’s Most Wanted: Winter 2020

Who better to tell us what to add to our Winter wishlists than some of allbeauty’s very own beauty and product gurus? We did a quick whip round to find out the most coveted winter treats, as selected by allbeauty team members. And it wouldn’t be a proper team chat without finding out what everyone is looking forward to doing during the Winter months!

So grab a cup of something warming and settle down with us to discover our favourite allbeauty winter things. From cosy wellbeing candles and hair care treatments to soothe distressed looks to opulent fragrance and glittery palettes, here’s the lowdown on everything we’ll be adding to our shopping carts over the next few months.

We hope you don’t beat us to it!

My ultimate winter product has to be a Neom Organics candle!
I love these because as the dark nights draw in, it’s the perfect time for a little illumination! The scent of Neom Organics is a wonderful way to fill the house with relaxing fragrance. As an added bonus, a candle helps to calm the kids down before bedtime so everyone gets a great night’s sleep.

For me, the best thing about winter is Sunday dinner with the family, followed by a fresh winter walk along the beach.

My winter essential has to be the Moroccan Oil Treatment Mask Smoothing Lotion.
This product helps to keep my thick coarse hair smooth and frizz free during the damp winter months!

My favourite thing about winter would be getting cosy by the fire and watching all the classic old Christmas movies like ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘Miracle on 34th Street’.

My Winter Beauty Must Have Product has to be Dior Sauvage!
It smells great and it’s a strong aftershave that can hold its own when I inevitably rub some of it off with my extensive collection of winter scarves.

When it comes to picking a favourite thing about Winter, I would have to say a guilt free bubble bath when the weather is miserable outside. The more bubbles the better!

My Winter Beauty go-to is also a K-Beauty favourite – the Cosrx Exfoliator BHA Blackhead Power Liquid 100ml

I love this skincare product because it’s gentle, works like a treat, and removes the grime on the skin and in the pores. It also helps to balance the PH on my face and prevents any kind of breakouts and dry skin build-up. Also, it is easy to fit into my busy routine and wipes the slate clean for my morning moisturizer. You don’t need to use it every day to see the effects!

My favourite thing about the winter season has to be clothing, I love layers! Also is there anything more soothing than the pitter-patter of rain on windows?

Benefit Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain in Love Tint Fiery-Red is one of my go to products; when the winter washes away the rosiness of your skin. I apply a small amount onto the lips and a dab on the cheeks and you’re looking fresh again! Or layer it up and you can create a classic red lip for the Holiday parties without worrying of the dreaded smudging and bleeding that comes with red lips. Small enough to fit in your purse – this product is my winter favourite!

My favourite thing about winter is the clear sky mornings with frosted grass, especially the child-like excitement when you can see your own breath in the air. However, I think everyone can agree on the dark nights spent inside under a blanket with a cup of tea.

My Winter Essential has to be the M.A.C Art Library Nude Model Palette.
A glittery smokey eye is my vice and there is nothing I love more than swatching a new eyeshadow palette!

This aptly named colour “library” has everything you need to craft a variety of Autumn/Winter eye makeup looks. With excellent pigmentation and colour pay off, this palette of stunning glitters and satiny nudes is perfect for adding a touch of glow and illumination to your eyes on a cold wintry night.

My favourite thing about Winter has to be the accessories! When winter hits, out come my boots, earmuffs & fluffy berets – not all at once, mind you. Usually, my ultimate Winter activity is visiting family and friends over the festive period – not having been able to travel this year, I’ve spent a lot of time looking at window displays online from the cities I would usually visit! When I’m not looking at display windows, you’ll find me curled up with seasonal snacks, a stash of paints, a good book and reruns of Mad Men or Gossip Girl – xoxo.

My Winter Beauty Must Have Product is the L’Oréal Professionnel SERIE EXPERT Vitamino Color Mask 500ml
You only need a tiny amount of this product to make a huge difference. It really nourishes, strengthens and softens your hair with just a 5 minute use.

When it comes to winter months, my favourite things are definitely cosy nights in – with some self care included!

My top Winter Beauty product is the timeless Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream!
I love how Egyptian Magic is all-natural and organic. It has a mystical feel to it – something spiritual which has been passed down through the ages. The cream has a mix of pure ingredients such as Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly & Divine Love and has been certified cruelty free. It’s also multi-purpose and can be used as a moisturiser, lip balm, hand cream and as a makeup primer… the list goes on.

My favourite thing about winter are the dark, starry skies and crisp, cool mornings!

Kérastase Nutritive 8hr Magic Night Serum is one of my favourite Winter Beauty products! An overnight beauty sleep moisturising serum for dry hair is a must have on your winter product list – and this product definitely gives 8 hours of nourishment. Like an intensive night cream, it works whilst you sleep to repair and nourish for absolutely sublime soft hair in the morning. Apply on dry or damp hair and spread a pump into your hands, distributing through lengths to ends of hair before bed. No need to rinse in the morning and no oily residue left. It really works wonders.

Another great product for winter is Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Universal Balm. This is an absolute must have for me as it is a multi purpose product which nourishes, softens and moisturises everything from hair to skin, knees to elbows, eyebrows to beards. Even hands, cuticles and nails benefit from the wonderfully smelling balm!.
Infused with red camellia oil, it protects from dryness and has a lovely non sticky lightweight texture. It can also be re-applied at any time of day if necessary.

My favourite things about the winter are cosy Sundays by the fire with a roast in the oven and a good movie or box set!

My Winter Beauty Essential is a fragrance, and this can only be the decadently delightful Tom Ford Black Orchid. Rich, creamy and luxurious – this fragrance may be haute couture and high fashion, having been designed by top Fashion Designer Tom Ford but it envelops you in it’s warmth! It contains notes of incense, amber, vanilla, dark chocolate and vetiver, with a woody base of patchouli and sandalwood. A true Winter scent!

My favourite things about winter are bundling up in cosy, warm clothes and going for long walks on crisp, bright winter days. Followed by large mugs of steaming hot chocolate! Or glasses of red, sitting by the fire in a country pub!

I love Alpha H Liquid Gold! Applying this feels like a spa treatment in your own home and if the name didn’t make you feel fancy enough, then the fact that it has been featured in Vogue will do! During the winter, I will tend to hibernate and this is perfect to brighten my tired skin after all of the festive fun, as it contains glycolic acid to buff away imperfections.

I love Winter because I get to watch Elf on repeat, cuddles on the sofa with my puppy and the occasional mulled wine!

Let us know if any of these products are also on your winter wishlist!

Demystifying Maskne Skincare with MATIS

How a skincare routine can help relieve Maskne issues

Open a glossy magazine today, or consult your usual go-to beauty sites, and you’ve probably read about Maskne, the new skin care concern of 2020-21.

Part and parcel of “the new normal” we’re experiencing as a result of the COVID pandemic, could you have predicted the wearing of face masks this time last year? We certainly didn’t and as with all new trends and concerns, it’s hard sometimes to know where to begin!

As the mandatory wearing of face masks has now become part of everyday life for many around the world, there has understandably been a rise in interest for skincare routines that treat and prevent Maskne.

Keen to understand more, we spoke to the French Beauty experts at MATIS to get their insight into the issue. MATIS is a brand 100% made in France, and promotes a type of beauty that is “expressive, natural, assumed and at ease with itself in motion”.

Read on to learn more about the ways in which your skincare routine can play a part in combating the pesky problems posed by Maskne – and adopt the beauty of being at ease with whatever life throws at you with MATIS!

What is Maskne?

MATIS describes Maskne as being “the development of redness, pimples and spots on the areas of the face that are covered by your mask – typically the chin, mouth, cheeks. “

They go on further to say that the pimples that appear as a result of wearing a mask usually have the appearance of shallow whiteheads rather than the painful red spots that are typical of regular blemishes.

Spots vary in size depending on how infected they become.

What causes Maskne?

Whiteheads are usually caused by blocked pores. Pores can easily become blocked through increases in your skin’s sebum or oil production.

The constant friction of a face mask on the skin creates little tears that allow dirt, bacteria, sweat, oil and makeup to enter the skin.

This can cause spot outbreaks, blemishes, inflamed hair follicles, irritation, and redness.

The lack of air circulation and air exposure to the face unfortunately encourages bacteria growth, meaning that blackheads, whiteheads or pimples can become more likely to appear.

It’s important to note that wearing a face mask can also exacerbate underlying or current skin conditions that you may have – such as Rosacea.

What can I do to prevent Maskne?

Cleanse skin thoroughly!

In order to avoid Maskne from happening, it is crucial to cleanse your face thoroughly twice a day.

Yes, as well as washing your hands and cloth mask on the regular, the need to cleanse your face has also become more important than ever.

This goes for whether you are using a single use or reusable face mask – wash your mask and wash your face!

The first product recommended by MATIS for cleansing your skin is the Matis Paris Reponse Jeunesse Essential Micellar Water. Suitable for all skin types, it gently traps and removes all dirt, traces of makeup, impurities and pollutants in one single movement, leaving the skin fresh and radiant.

This facial cleanser can be used as part of a double cleansing routine – use with a cotton pad or with a reusable makeup remover pad!

More sensitive and reactive skins on the other hand, require a very gentle cleansing product such as the Matis Paris Reponse Delicate Cleansing Cream. This no rinse, ultra-gentle make-up remover eliminates make-up whilst respecting the skin. Its creamy texture brings immediate comfort and well-being to the sensitive skin leaving it cleansed, soothed and protected.

Detox to avoid congested skin

Trapped moisture caused by a combination of breath, sweat and sebum can gather under the mask. This delightful combo can often lead to clogged pores. And you know what? Wearing a face mask also stops dead skin cells from shedding as they would normally do – which is a total nightmare.

MATIS recommend using a gentle exfoliation product once or twice a week to remove excess sebum and unclog your pores.
For even better results, exfoliation can be followed by the use of a detox mask . The City Mood Mask from the Matis Paris Instant Mood Multi-masking Set contains spirulina and purifies the skin without drying it. The pores are tightened and the skin is fresh whilst respecting the fragile epidermis of blemish-prone skin is respected.

Protect your skin’s barrier function with a hydrating Moisturiser

The feeling of discomfort and skin irritation caused by the friction of the mask on the skin can be reduced by the use of a good moisturiser. Keeping the skin hydrated throughout the day is also really important as it improves the skin’s barrier function.

A moisturiser which contains Hyaluronic Acid can help to repair, stimulate, moisturize and protect the skin, helping it recover its glow. Apply a thin layer at the end of your skincare routine.

Love Your Long Hair with L’Oréal Professionnel

Stop the press, allbeauties.

Long locks are BACK for Autumn/Winter 2020.

Since Lockdown began in March, we’ve had to cope with a lack of direct access to our favourite salon treatments and routine trims. As well as taking on the responsibilities of homeschooling, working from home, furlough and all the restrictions that the pandemic has brought us, we’ve also had to deal with maintaining our hair at home.
And let’s face it – haircare maintenance can be intimidating at the best of times and is not always at the top of our priorities!

So as winter rapidly approaches, if you’re looking for professional hair care tips on how to get your Rapunzel lengths glossy and glowing from the comfort of your own home, you’ve come to the right place.

A reduction in regular trims can lead to thinning ends and a deterioration in condition over time. Caring for your long hair has never been more important and L’Oréal Professionnel has a brand new Serie Expert range to do just that. Introducing Pro Longer, L’Oréal Professionnel’s first professional haircare range for long hair.

L’Oréal Professionnel SERIE EXPERT Pro Longer Shampoo 300ml helps to thicken long hair whilst making it visibly healthier and stronger looking.

Infused with Filler A-100 (innovative technology patented to L’Oréal Professionnel) and amino acids, long hair is plumped up from the inside and protected and strengthened from the outside. Results from an instrumental test, using both the shampoo and conditioner from the pro longer range, showed a 94% reduction in hair breakage and a 17% reduction in visible split ends.*

The Filler A-100 molecule works by penetrating the fibre core to plump and thicken the hair from the inside. Amino acids in the formula work to strengthen from the outside, allowing for the renewal of hair lengths and adding strength to the hair fibre itself. The formula works on thin ends, or areas where help is most needed.

This product is designed to be used as a double cleanser!

To use :
•  Wash once for an initial cleanse
•  Wash twice for a deeper treatment
•  Rinse out once complete.

Looking specifically for thickness? L’Oréal Professionnel SERIE EXPERT Pro Longer Concentrate 15ml contains a high concentration of the patented FILLER-A100 molecule.

Described by the brand as a “disruptive professional formula”, this product instantly provides strength and durable thickness to ends. It promises long lasting results and a 66% reduction in visible split ends.

•  Apply once a week, instead of the Renewing Conditioner or Masque
•  Break the capsule and apply the concentrate on the ends of your hair.

Do you air dry or blow dry your hair?

If you’ve been giving your hairdryer a break during lockdown, it’s important to remember that rubbing or combing wet hair can result in hair breakage. However, whilst straighteners and curling irons can get you salon straight hair or beachy waves, heat exposure from using hot tools can also cause complications.

Avoid damage from heat styling and exposure with L’Oréal Professionnel SERIE EXPERT Pro Longer Renewing Cream 150ml. This blow dry cream offers heat protection up to 230 degrees and has a lightweight texture, meaning that your ends will not be weighed down. Split ends are reduced, making this a great blow-dry cream (especially for longer hair!).

To use:
•  Warm up a small amount between the palms.
•  Apply to towel-dried lengths and ends.
•  Blow-dry or style as usual.

Why choose between health, thickness and length, when you can have it all?

Keep Winter Skin Hydrated with Rexaline

Restore your skin’s hydration levels with the Exclusive Rexaline Complex.

When Winter arrives with cold winds and rainy days, the desire to stay cosy definitely starts to creep up our self-care checklist.

Keeping our skin well-hydrated, however, is often the last thing on our minds!

Given that temperature contrasts between outdoors and in can change quickly, our skin has to work much harder to maintain adequate hydration during frosty winter months. The combination of cold winds, hot showers and indoor heating can lead to cracks in the outer skin layer, loss of hydration and inflammation.

Rexaline are a Parisian based brand fronted by a husband and wife team, who have carried out extensive research into one of the allbeauty team’s favourite winter beauty ingredients – Hyaluronic Acid.

The Rexaline brand was born in 2008. With 12 years of industry experience and as experts in the field of skincare, their anti-ageing products promise Hyper-Hydration, able to help with wrinkle reduction, skin replumping and remodelling.

Read on to learn about staying hydrated this Winter with Rexaline’s Hydra 3D Range!

The Rexaline solution

The first signs of ageing include fine lines, wrinkles, dull complexion, lack of firmness and sagging facial features… lucky us!

Where does hydration fit in? The human body contains around 75% water when we are born, but from the age of 20, the skin starts to lose its retention abilities. In fact, when we hit 50, the skin is only able to retain 50% of water, resulting in those pesky signs of ageing. It sounds like a scary concept, but don’t worry – skin hydration is a simple thing to incorporate into your skincare routine – whatever your age.

Knowing that Hyaluronic Acid, naturally present in the skin, is its best hydration agent, the scientists of the Rexaline laboratory developed a formulation that helps the skin to retain the ideal daily dose of Hyaluronic Acid.

All of Rexaline’s products are formulated from the Exclusive Rexaline Complex, built on a duo of Hyaluronic Acid for lasting hydration of all layers of the epidermis.

This is achieved by the combination of a high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, which hydrates the SURFACE of the skin to smooth it immediately, with a low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid which penetrates deeper into the layers of the skin to plump it durably.

Rexaline’s complex also includes moisturising extracts from two plants :

•  Red Algae, which boosts hydration
•  Desert Rose, which prevents dehydration.

Rexaline’s best seller is the Hydra-Shock mask, which gives the skin a real “shot” of Hyaluronic Acid. Easy to apply and multifunctional, this mask provides immediate comfort, smoothing and revitalizing the skin.

Soft, fresh and suitable for all skin types, it can be used in 3 different ways :

•  As an “express” glow boost
•  At night, as an intensive cure kept on overnight
•  As a restorative cure over 7 successive days.

Wrinkles and fine lines are visibly smoothed and the skin regains its radiance.
For best results, incorporate the mask into your beauty routine once or twice a week.

Hydra-Dose is a light and fresh textured treatment, suitable for normal to combination skin.
This cream is specially designed to replenish natural water loss by providing the skin with a daily dose of hydration. Immediately, the skin feels a sensation of well-being, whilst in the longer term it is plumped and toned. Fine lines and wrinkles fade away.

Hydra-Dose Rich is enriched by botanical softening extracts for a smooth finish.
The cream is a rich, silky texture with a subtle fragrance that meets the needs of normal to dry skin.
Intensely hydrating, after application, skin appears smoothed, plumped and radiant.

A skincare routine is never complete without a serum, and Rexaline’s Hydra-BigBang, a concentrated anti-fatigue serum, helps to give your skin a radiant glow!

Suitable for all skin types, Its revolutionary formula helps relieve signs of exhaustion on the face.

Olivine, a precious stone of volcanic origin, is added to the exclusive Rexaline Complex to ensure :
•  A progressive rebalancing of the skin’s hydration mechanism
•  Neutralisation of the effects of daily stress
•  Tone restoration of exhausted cells.

The complexion is brightened, the features are smoothed, and your face gains a luminous glow (like a precious stone!)

Get The Look with allbeauty’s Winter Must-Haves

The catwalks of Autumn/Winter 2021 brought the world of beauty so many new makeup looks to covet! From red lips and winged liner to flawless translucent skin and copper accents… this of course got the allbeauty team thinking – it’s time to refresh our makeup kits!

Of course, there are some practicalities we are yet to figure out (glasses + mask… hello condensation), but we figured this was a key time to look at the best of beauty brands on our site, as well as their best selling products as rated by you. Are you ready? Let’s get all made up!

Founded in 1984, has M.A.C (also known as Mac, or Make-Up Art Cosmetics) ever gone out of style? Whether you’re a teen of the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s or beyond, having a Mac product on your wishlist is a certified rite of passage.

Professional quality, yet friendly on the purse strings, it’s no wonder that mac products have featured in influencer Get the Look videos since the videos themselves became a trend. Offering shades for every skin tone, this makeup line is truly inclusive. We also love that their VIVA GLAM lipstick range donates a percentage of all profits to charity.

Whether you’re a fan of the natural look (à la M.A.C Velvet Teddy lipstick, their best selling nude) or more of a vivacious bold lip girl (here’s looking at you, M.A.C Ruby Woo, the iconic red lip style statement), here’s a round up of our favourites!

M.A.C’s Cremesheen Lipstick helps to nourish and moisturise lips for comfortable, non-drying wear. Vanilla scented lipstick provides a smooth, glossy finish in an array of radiant colours.

We love Crème In Your Coffee – a warm toned creamy pink (the clue’s in the name there!) which is perfect for an everyday look but translates well to evening too. Suitable for all complexions, it has a neutral undertone with excellent pigmentation and lasting power.

You can’t talk about M.A.C without mentioning Ruby Woo (we checked, it’s basically a crime against beauty gurus everywhere).
Red lips have been iconic since time immemorial, and M.A.C’s Ruby Woo has been up there in the Beauty Halls of Fame since its release in 1999 (…that’s 21 whole years of beauty genius right there).

Looking for more of a blue-red toned lip? We recommend Russian Red.

Oh NARS – why, even the sound of this cosmetic range is luxe and decadent.

Created in 1994 by leading fashion photographer and make up artist François Nars, the NARS makeup line originally started off as 12 lipstick shades. Inspired by the glamorous looks of François’ mother, Claudette, the range would gradually evolve over the next few decades into the exhilarating line up we know today.

With suave and exciting names such as Audacious, Outlaw and of course, the eponymous Orgasm, these beauty products have featured on the faces of the most powerful faces of fashion and pop culture. Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Tilda Swinton, Charlotte Gainsbourg… the list goes on.

Want to know one of the key reasons we love NARS so much? The founder himself has said that beauty is more than a cute face – “It is composed of Strength and Character”. Well, François, you can definitely call our team NARSISSISTS!

Here are some of our cult faves from the brand.

Give your cheeks va-va-voom with a NARS Blush – our personal go-to is Lovejoy. It adds an oh so gorgeous but natural-looking flush of colour to the face. Building from sheer to bold colour. This silky-smooth powder adds a gorgeous but natural-looking flush of colour to the face.

As we mentioned earlier, Vampy eyes were all over the 2020/2021 catwalks, and you too can serve up decadent drama with eyeshadow duos from NARS.

These sets each feature two velvety shadows that have been designed to pair together for a two toned look. If you’re looking for a rich Autumnal copper, then look no further than Surabaya! Apply wet for a look that really ups the ante.

Laura Mercier

Laura Mercier – also known as “the pioneer of the flawless face” is fairly new to allbeauty, but won’t be new to makeup fans in the know. Founded by Laura Mercier in 1996, the brand revolves around the enhancement of natural beauty – a four step plan of primer, foundation, concealer and setting products. No wonder this line features often on the red carpet at key Hollywood events, with its star products often cited as Beauty Editor cupboard favourites.

Laura Mercier is a world renowned makeup artist – raised in Provence, she went to painting school in Paris before training at Paris’ Carita Beauty Institute and moving to New York to work as a makeup artist for Vogue.

Her line represents a fusion of French Beauty – sophisticated yet effortless no-makeup, makeup, combined with a bold spirit and American energy.  So Emily in Paris!

Switching up your lip look has never been easier! This Laura Mercier set contains 5 high-shine and super pigmented lip glosses in the shades Bare Pink, Pink Pop, Cosmic, Rose Gold Accent and Bonbon. Move over Michelangelo,  be inspired by the artistic flair of Laura Mercier and create your own flawless lip masterpiece.

So the summer sun may have said farewell for now, but we know what we’re reaching for to fake a sunkissed look. BareMinerals All over face colour in Warmth has all the warmth of a Pumpkin Spice Latte and will give your complexion a radiant and healthy glow! Wear alone or mix with foundation for best results. This multipurpose beauty can be used as a bronzer, blush or can even be applied to the eyelids for a colour that pops.

Continuing on the bronzed theme, BareMinerals Eyeliner in Eternal Bronze comes with a built in sharpener, to make sure that your metallic liner look is always on point. For convenience, we often find ourselves reaching for a liquid eyeliner, but this pencil allows you to go all in and really smudge up your lash line for a high fashion editorial look. Playful and on trend, yet classy. This is definitely a look we’ll be trying out!

Terry de Gunzburg is a legend within the beauty industry. As International Makeup Designer of YSL Beauté, one of her biggest achievements was creating YSL’s Touche Éclat click pen concealer in 1992. After working at YSL for 15 years, having come up with many glam haute couture looks, she left the brand in 2000 to launch her own line – By Terry.

Did you know this maverick originally trained to be a medical student before forging her impressive beauty credentials? We can’t imagine a catwalk without By Terry!

Enjoy a touch of indulgence with “the Rolls Royce of lip care” – By Terry’s Baume de Rose This is regarded as a cult product from the By Terry range and if you try it, you’ll soon see why this is highly rated by beauty editors! Rich and nourishing, this soft pink balm soothes and plumps your lips, leaving them delectably soft and kissably smooth. It’s formulated with rose blossom wax, shea butter, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid – we love its delicate rose scent.

We’ve made it this far without mentioning mascara, you didn’t think we’d missed it did you? Mascara Terrybly is ingenious in that it not only promises you sooty black lashes, it also acts as a growth booster too. Delivering outstanding volume, length and thickness, this product also contains that winter wonder ingredient Hyaluronic Acid to leave lashes silky and strong.

The allbeauty Guide to Winter Vitamins and Supplements

Well, allbeauties, winter is coming! And whilst there’s many positives about the Winter season (hello jumpers, hot chocolate and Christmas!), temperature drops and seasonal transitions can wreak havoc on our health and wellbeing at the best of times, let alone when there’s a global pandemic.

Luckily, we are built to be adaptable – but regardless, winter can bring on a number of changes to your health. Think cold and flu season, think chapped skin, dehydration, allergies, migraines and low mood. And new for 2020 – mask-ne. Even if you aren’t usually susceptible, exposure to cold snaps in conjunction with more time spent indoors with central heating can have negative effects on our bodies, leaving us more prone to illness.

So what can we do to combat the Winter blues? As well as keeping our nutrition in check and getting fresh air on a regular basis, (even if the weather isn’t exactly beckoning you outside!), there are a number of vitamin and mineral supplements that you can take to help support your immune system.

Without further ado, we present you our guide to the winter vitamins and supplements that can give you the boost you need to balance the effects of winter on your body. We’ve sought out trusted advice from some of our brand favourites. Step in Solgar and Nature’s Bounty!

About the Brands

Solgar represents the gold standard when it comes to quality vitamins and supplements, with over 70 years experience in creating the finest nutritional supplements in small batches.

Nature’s Bounty’s dedication to quality, consistency, and scientific research has resulted in vitamins and nutritional supplements of unrivalled excellence.

See the Top 5 supplement types below, along with our recommendations on the products to shop from each brand.

Vitamin C – Introducing Ester-C

Vitamin C is a vitamin found in many foods. Consuming adequate amounts of vitamin C is important as humans rely on dietary sources – we can’t make our own. Vitamin C is found in high amounts in both the epidermis (outer layer) and dermis (middle layer) of skin, but as we age, the levels of vitamin C in skin tends to decline. Vitamin C is essential for tissue reparation, cell protection and maintaining healthy skin as well as collagen production. If vitamin C levels are low, the body is not able to make collagen. Collagen has many important functions within the body – such as aiding with skin structure and bone strength.

Oranges and citrus fruits are a good source of vitamin C. An easy way to get an additional boost is through capsule supplements, or for a bit of tropical fun, chewable gummies.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, Solgar’s Ester-C tablets can also be considered when looking for a Vitamin C supplement. Ester C is a non-acidic and highly absorbable form of vitamin C combined with fruit extracts and bioflavonoids. They provide advanced, active immune and cardiovascular support. Ester-C® Plus offers a gentler, more easily digested form of vitamin C which is pH neutral and non-acidic.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is required to promote calcium absorption. Obtained from the sunlight or vitamin D rich foods, if you feel as if you are lacking in vitamin D, then you are not alone – over a billion people worldwide have very low levels of vitamin D. In addition to changing your diet and lifestyle, taking a vitamin D supplement is a good way to top up, especially in winter months.

It contributes to:

• the maintenance of normal teeth, bones and muscle function
• the normal function of the immune system and growth and development of bones in children
• the normal function of the immune system and inflammation response
• normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus

Solgar offers Vitamin D capsules and chewable tablets as supplement options.

Zinc is a key nutrient – it contributes to a healthy immune system and has properties that are useful for skin and beauty, vision and cognitive health. Zinc is especially useful for skin.

Zinc levels in the epidermis (outer layer of skin) are higher than in the dermis (the thickest layer of skin). This is because zinc is needed to produce and differentiate keratinocytes. Keratinocytes make up 95% of skin cells and produce keratin – the key structure which makes up your hair and nails. Keratin also gives skin its flexibility and strength.

Did you know that lines or white spots on fingernails often indicate a common sign of zinc deficiency? Our bodies don’t store zinc so we have to get it from food. If you’re vegan, vegetarian or don’t eat much red meat, you may be deficient.

Iron is a key mineral and essential nutrient, required by the body for many different biological functions. We should be able to achieve healthy levels of iron by consuming a normal healthy diet consisting of foods such as red meat, pulses, nuts, eggs, grains and leafy vegetables. However, there are times when we may need some additional support. Getting enough iron has been shown to reduce tiredness and fatigue and support healthy energy levels. Iron also helps carry oxygen around the body to our active cells and tissues. In this way, iron contributes to normal cognitive function, normal energy-levels and supports a healthy immune system.

Unfortunately, Iron can be quite harsh on the intestinal system. Gentle Iron contains iron in bisglycinate form. This form is easy to absorb and gentle on the stomach.

The benefits of Gentle iron are that it is :

• A highly absorbable unique form of iron
• Useful for those with a restricted diet such as Vegans and Vegetarians
• Gentle on the stomach / ideal for sensitive stomachs
• Reduces constipation effects (a common effect of standard iron supplements!)
• Vegan, Vegetarian, Kosher, Halal and Gluten Free
• No Artificial Colours or Flavours
• No Dairy, Lactose, Soy, Wheat or Yeast

Omega 3 – Discovering the Surprising Source of Full Spectrum Omega

Good fats, also known as Omega-3 fatty acids, are essential fatty acids. They are referred to as essential as the body is not able to make them on its own. Omega-3 fat types consist of the following:

• ALA (alpha linoleic acid)
• DHA (Docosahexanoic acid)
• EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid)

There are different types of Omega acids and Omega Fats. Omega-6 is another type of saturated healthy fat (found in food such as corn or soybeans) which is needed for a healthy immune system, however take-away and convenience foods may contribute to an imbalance between Omega-6 and Omega-3 in the body. This means we tend to have much higher levels of Omega- 6 in our bodies, compared to Omega- 3. To rectify this imbalance, there are a few options one can consider and they are relatively easy to implement and tasty too.

Which leads us to on to our next point…

One of the ways to incorporate Omega 3 into your diet is to eat more oily fish. Oily fish is a good source of Omega-3. In fact, the NHS recommends consuming at least two portions (140 grams each) of fish a week, including one portion of oily fish. Oily fish include salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout and herring.

For those who do not enjoy eating fish (it’s not for everyone!) Omega-3 fish oil supplements are available.

Solgar Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil

Our top pick is the Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil from Solgar. Sustainably caught and harvested from the cold waters of Alaska, wild salmon is one of the richest sources of important omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.

These soft gels provide the full spectrum of omega fatty acids, helping you to increase your intake of good fats for a healthy heart. This product also includes Vitamin D3 to support your immune system and bone health, as well as Astaxanthin, an antioxidant.

So there you have it – our guide to the vitamins and supplements you can easily incorporate into your diet and daily routine in advance of those cold and unpredictable Winter months. Remember to seek advice before trying a new vitamin or supplement. Stay warm and stay safe!
